Inappropriate? It looks iike the (very small and hard to read) error code is A000000B (B vs. 8) and happens when creating a synth with Photosynth 2.0.1403.6
-
thanks for your prompt response David, can you look at the screenshot attached in the post below please? -
David - any luck at all with this please fella? I was kinda hoping you'd follow this up... -
Inappropriate? The error message for me is for SURE an 8 not a B... When I click on Why did this happen? it sends me to the getsatisfaction website with the error in the URL which is "http://getsatisfaction.com/livelabs?err=A0000008" I pasted that straight from the address bar...

Inappropriate?Aren't you behind some proxy/firewall, which can limit your connection on the basis of HTTP traffic analysis (MIME type etc)? I had to make exceptions for Photosynth's sites in configuration of my proxy server to resolve the same issue (A0000008), see my post at what_does_error_a0000008_mean topic here.
Simply, application is not able to make a call to Photosynth's webservice, it is blocked somehow. -
Inappropriate?Hmmm... I'm not sure; how would I find that out?
My internet supplier is BT (uk) and I use Kaspersky anti-virus with the XP SP3 firewall... -
Inappropriate?I had opportunity to monitor all HTTP communication between my PC and any external site - and to find why Photosynth doesn't work for me.
I cannot reveal any details about my setup here, but I can tell you following: In my case, I got the A0000008 error immediately after I have clicked on the Synth button - and proxy has rejected calls originated from my PC towards photosynth.net domain at the same moment - I have seen the proxy logs.
However - this might be only one possible source of troubles. According to the reply I've got from the team (see the reply to my post referred to above), this error is considered to be an authentication issue - so there are more possible sources of troubles. And I can imagine that some combination of protection tools (firewalls, antiviruses, malware protection tools) might influence network traffic of your PC.
I haven't experience with XP SP3 firewall. Try to turn on logging, if it can be done, and watch the results. -
Inappropriate?i've just got this message after going through the whole upload process for 123 photos, right at the very very end it suddenly decided to fail.
i've already been through the sign in battle, and i have uploaded synths, so don't try to tell me i have a network/firewall problem, i'm not on a network.
it's actally more fun to come into this "getsatisfaction" section and follow the problems.....
all you "live labs employess" who are supposed to be here are very conspicous by your absence from actally helping anybody.....
p.s. i'm not expecting any of you to reply.
i'll probably just try again and waste another couple of hours.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?happy to report that when i logged in through FIREFOX, my photos loaded quickly and easily, with no problems.......and another synth after that....
could it be that, shock horror, i.e. is the cause of all these problems?
i for one will be using firefox exclusively from now on.
let me know if you get your problems fixed, and i'll think about using internet explorer again.
take your time, i'll be in no hurry to change back.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?hi stonedmantis,
the stoned bit strikes a familiar thing with me, but enough of that.
i'm a bit happier now, i've been very critical of them, but it is an amazing piece of software....i am using MOZILLA FIREFOX to access it, straight in every time, no problem. there is a "B" message and an "8" message, it just means their processor has crapped up at some point, and you just try it again. i'm just an ordinary guy on a dell laptop, so i don't have any special graphic cards or anything, sorry i havn't been here in this getsatisfaction section lately, so i hadn't caught your message from 2 days ago, to be honest, that would be about how often i look at my hotmail inbox, it's not my preferred e.mail address, dringland06@aol.com would get me quicker.
hows it going, or is it? are you getting anywhere with it?
i would be glad to help, if i can...
drop me a msg.
dave.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? For me it seems to be a certain combination of photos, or using certain characters in the title or keywords (e.g. a "?" is right out). Changing one of those seems to fix it.
This time, it appears to be happening a little while into "Generating Image Tiles". I'm assuming it's a fault with either the first or second picture, or maybe one of the others if it's only at the stage of loading them up rather than analysing.
Or, changing those things did tend to fix it until today, but I've logged in via IE(7) and have been having proxy issues earlier (something wierd keeps happening where IE occasionally decides to revert to settings that haven't been valid for months now, and I have to load firefox, copy the right ones and paste them back into IE - argh!). Which ends up killing Photosynth and Messenger stone dead, as they both seem to use IE's settings - or IE code maybe? - to conduct their internet traffic. If Internet Explorer has it wrong, then they get it wrong also!
Plus, can we do something about the login thing for this? It NEVER accepts my email address and password and I have to go through the whole grind of logging in via Windows Live instead........ after copying & pasting what I've just written to notepad of course so it doesn't "Lose All Data!!". No other messageboard I've used has had that problem (except for one years ago using a very old version of phpBB, where it was a bug rather than something programmed in). Fix it!
(most annoyingly this happens even if I'm ALREADY signed in - with Photosynth itself, messenger, etc)
I’m a bit pissed off, but I'm at work right now and have finished my coffee so I'll just try from home later
-
nope, tried a couple more times, gradually changing the words and the images until i was making something with only three pictures (none of which were in the original set or looked anything like them) with the title "Delete me" and the keywords "error diagnosis", and it still failed after going two or three chunks into the Generating Image Tiles stage. Bah. -
Inappropriate?I got this problem aswell.
It got nothing to do with my firewall as I have already created a smal synth 5 pictures.
But I get this anoying problem when trying to import more pictures 196.
I use Photosynth 2.0.1519.16
On my home computer Photosynth even manages to shut down my whole computer.
On My work computer I get this error.
I’m Anoyed and feel like the company should do something about this problem besides just knowing about it...
-
Ps. This error usualy comes in the beginning, when it is "Generating image tiles" this prosess usualy takes some time then I get the error.
On some ocations I get the error straight away. -
Inappropriate? In another error I got just now with only 51 pictures it comes to the point where it starts uploading
"Uploading file 2 of 3 (86% synth), experiencing a net..."
it seems to be frozen, but I can Pause the operation and restart it, but nothing happens.
Allso wierd that it says file 2 of 3 when I choose 51 pictures...
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hi Zur.
The "2 of 3" comes from the fact that most of your images have been uploaded already (perhaps in a previous synth?). There's no reason for photosynth to upload them a second time.
As for the A000008 error. Can you tell if it happend on a specific image?
