Inappropriate?Ok, let's try a few things:
1. Could you tell me what browser/OS combo you were using (IE6, IE7, Firefox, Windows xp/Vista 32/64)?
2. Did you have the technology preview installed prior to this release?
3. Did you have any trouble installing photosynth?
4. Are your graphics card drivers updated? -
1. XP 32 Home GERMAN! - the problem?
Neither IE 7.0.5730.13 nor FF 3.0.3 work
2. No
3. No
4. Dxdiag works the tests with and without hardware accel. and shows 9.0c
Rather old ATI rage pro 128 with 32MB - the problem?
Creating with 2.0.1403.14 works and publishes - then "view" -> same message.

Inappropriate?Joshua - thanks or responding.
Q1. IE7 + XP
Q2. Technology preview ??? - Guessing no.
Q3. Installed perfectly.
Q4. ??? Four years old - never updated. -
Inappropriate?Let's start with the graphics card.
Can you tell which version of DirectX you have? One way to do this is to run "dxdiag" from the start menu. This is the DirectX diagnostic tool and should tell you the version on the bottom. Generally, Photosynth needs DirectX 9.0 or better to work,
What graphics card do you have? -
I actually figured out what my problem was. I have a Mac and installed XP on a partition in Boot Camp but was using parallels as my virtual environment. -
Inappropriate?Another thing to try is test and see if the synther works. Try clicking on "create" and try to make a synth of 4-5 images, just to see if the rest of the application works. This could help isolate the problem
-
Inappropriate?XP 32
IE8
No problem with installation -
Inappropriate?I don't believe IE8 is supported yet. Does it work with with IE7/Firefox?
-
IE8 should work -
Grrr... (I did not realize that)
I would still advocate trying Firefox, just to try and isolate the problem (browser vs graphics driver vs something else) -
Inappropriate?I have installed Photosynth on Windows Server 2003, and using IE7. Still saying, refer help :(

Inappropriate?Hi Saurabh.
Can you give me answers to the questions I wrote above? That will help me diagnose the problem.
Thanks,
Joshua. -
Inappropriate?I cannot see any questions...

Inappropriate?Hey guys.
I've been monitoring these types of bugs, and it looks like the common denominator is XP32. Could you post the contents of:
%tmp%\PhotosynthActivex.log
It would help us narrow down the problem. -
Inappropriate?I am having the same problem... XP-SP3, IE- 7.0.5730, DirectX v9.0c, NVidia GeForce2 MX400 with 64MB. Here is content of PhotosynthActivex.log
10/21/08 19:41:19.73 | PhotosynthMaster::beforeRun()
10/21/08 19:41:19.73 | program version = 1.1.11210
10/21/08 19:41:19.73 | PhotosynthMaster::beforeRun - setting up RenderDevice
10/21/08 19:41:20.43 | PhotosynthMaster::beforeRun - error setting up the DxDraw device sdResultExtra = ( -2048261885 )
10/21/08 19:41:20.44 | PhotosynthMaster::~PhotosynthMaster: Oddly m_control isn't valid
10/21/08 19:41:20.44 | PhotosynthMaster::~PhotosynthMaster -
I also have the latest version of the Nvidia driver. I confirmed this.. -
I also ran dxdiag to confirm DirectX version and that there were no problems identified in the "notes" for DirectX files. -
I disabled both DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D Acceleration - also when I tested Direct3D all Tests Failed. Since making these changes the PhotosynthActiveX.log contains much more detail, and it seems to have completed properly on the application side. Now all my Test Photosynth pics are available on the web site. But I still can not View them, same error msg. -
Srhibm,
The current Photosynth viewer that we use today absolutely relies on DirectDraw and Direct3D. Disabling either one will produce the 'We wish it would work' message every time on every computer that you try it on. You must turn both back on if you want to see the viewer work. Perhaps you disabled them just out of curiosity, but I just wanted to be clear that both are absolutely 100% necessary for the current implementation.
If I am not mistaken, the GeForce 2 MX400 is fairly old. My parents' old Sony Vaio has a GeForce 2 MX with only 16MB of video RAM which is, of course, somewhat weaker than your card. That being said, I have gotten Photosynth to work for them by lowering their video card's refresh rate and desktop resolution. I do not know whether this could help you or not, but give it a try and let me know what happens. -
Inappropriate?Hi, I have the same problem, I posted a Phtossynth and the program worked fine, but I still can't see the viewer..
I have Xp, IE7 Dx 9.0c and an ATI Radeon Xpress 200
-
Famaya, have you installed the latest drivers for your Radeon Xpress 200? They're available for download here. Let me know whether it works or not.
Hope you get it working soon! -
Inappropriate?Update..
I have installed Photosynth on my Lap, and everything works fine... this is my current configuration:
Windows XP Home edition
IE 7.05730.13
Dx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Mobile Intel 915GM
On my PC these are the current versions:
Windows XP Media Center Edition
IE 7.05730.11
Dx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
What would it be the problem?? it seems fine... -
Inappropriate?Ok, I intalled the latest drivers on my PC also on my Lap, after that, everyhting worked great, I've already posted 3 synth's
It would be great if you check'em up and send em your coments...
I’m completely happy
