SFTP drops, EXPANDRIVE_DROP_CONNECTION errors etc
SFTP drive constantly drops connection (if it matters, to sftp.ning.com). Console logs show repeated entries mentioning:
not a command EXPANDRIVE_DROP_CONNECTION
not a command EXPANDRIVE_PROMPT_FOR_CANCEL_RESPONSE
These seem to happen at the same time as the connection drops. I believe it's a drop not a freeze since the log also shows re-authentication happening immediately afterwards.
Using rsync on the mount produces errors like:
rsync: read errors mapping "/Volumes/sftp.ning.com/foo/xn_private/video-private-configuration.xml": Network is down (50)
The same sftp connection works fine in WinSCP. My Expandrive reports Version 1.2.2 (2008.05.21). kexstat reports com.google.filesystems.fusefs (1.3.1).
Any ideas? Bouncing all this stuff through a Windows box is sucksome!
Regards, l.

We're aggressively tweaking this behavior right now. In order to improve one set of conditions, it's sometimes coming at the cost of others. If you want to email support@magnetk.com we'd be happy to work with you one on one.
Sorry for the trouble.

Inappropriate?Hi Jeff,
As suggested I mailed the support address a week ago but have heard nothing back since, guess you're busy on other things.
It's worth noting that another product, MacFusion, that uses the same MacFUSE kernel extension / library, has no problem at all with the same connection.
Wish I'd tried that before I bought Expandrive, really. It's OSS too.
Regards, l.
I’m peeved

Sorry, I don't think we got the email, or it got lost in the mix
This bug is our top priority, A #1. It's going to be fixed, and fixed well.
I'd love to work with you and everyone else to optimize the behavior.
I'll post again soon when we're ready with an update for testing
I’m optimistic

Inappropriate?Sure, resent. My mailserver shows both the original and the second successfully received by your (Google) MXs.
Looking forward to working with you on this. -
Inappropriate?Another week passes yet nothing heard from Magnetk. Never mind, I'm going continue to use MacFusion.
Whilst I'm up for supporting independent software development I think it's fair that pay-for products come with an expectation of some level of support which I'm just not seeing here.
I’m trying not to rant.

Inappropriate?Lemon - Sorry about this. I just emailed you back, to work some more with you.
These messages, for references, aren't actually error messages. We define some internal metrics for connections so we can decide when the connection is up vs down. It's a fine balance between letting an application hang until the IO completes [or in many cases, such as a lost wireless connection, never will] or failing operations to prevent beachballing.
I've sent you an internal build we'd love you to try out, and we'll be much more prompt about working on this going forward. -
Inappropriate?Just for the public record: as of a fortnight ago MacFusion (nor the cli tool in MacFUSE itself) no longer works for me against sftp.ning.com, but other SFTP servers are fine.
Whether that's down to changes at Ning's end or some other random thing I'm unsure! -
Inappropriate?Just for closure: Ning have shut their sucky SFTP server down completely so we can worry about that no more!
