How do I create dynamic or smart text in Word for mac?
I want to create a master text box and then add child text boxes that update when I change the master.
Let's say I create "Bob's document title" on the cover page and then I want to duplicate "Bob's document title" in other parts of the document (like the header).
If I change the cover page text box to read "Bob's proposal title" I want all of the headers to automatically update too.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Inappropriate?You want field codes.
1. In Word, on the File menu, click Properties.
2. On the Summary tab, in the Title box, type the title for your document. Word pulls the information for the Title field from the Title box.
3. In the document, put your cursor where you want the field code.
4. On the Insert menu click Field.
5. In the Field box, click Document Information and in the Field names list, click Title.
Note: If you want to see the field code, press CONTROL, and then click Toggle Field Codes.
6. To update all of the fields in the document, select the entire document, press CONTROL, and then click Update Field.
(Special thanks to my colleague Mike from the Word team, who helped me out with this answer!)
For further information about fields in Word, here's a document from the Word MVPs about it. The directions in it assume that you're using Word for Windows, but the concept applies to Word:Mac as well.

Another one of the Word MVPs wrote up differences in the keyboard shortcuts between Windows Word and Word:Mac.

Hope this helps!

Inappropriate?Wow Nadyne! That is really super duper helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to figure this out. I always assume with Word that you guys have thought of everything, I'm just not always sure how to find it. ;)
I’m thankful

PS. What's an MVP? -
Inappropriate?I knew I was forgetting something in my reply!
MVP stands for Most Valued Professional. These are people who aren't Microsoft employees, who are experts in our applications, and who spend an amazing amount of time helping other people. MVPs are some of the most awesome people in the known world -- not only are they smart, but they're super-willing to share what they know.
In the future, if you get stuck, you might find that the Office:Mac product forums will get you help quicker. The MVPs tend to hang out there, and they're usually very fast to respond. You can check out the product forums here:

Inappropriate? Thanks Nadyne. I couldn't find anything through google OR in the forums I looked at (including the one you linked to above).
I'm obviously partial to GS (I'm the designer here at Get Satisfaction), so when it came down to actually posting a topic I wanted to do it somewhere that I trust that I'll be treated well. Although mactopia seems like a place full of experts, it's pretty intimidating to a non-expert such as myself.
Thanks!
I’m partial.
