Windows xp boot up problem
I am having boot-up problems with xp, apparently caused by a missing file. My computer stops halfway through boot-up and I have to be there to press the enter button, to complete the process. If I use my windows rescue disk to correct this, (supplied with the computer when new,) will I destroy all the software and settings I have created since I got the machine?

Inappropriate?(Apologies for the brief reply as I am mobile today.) initially you should contact your PC OEM for support. Likely you should back up important files. If you installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, you may also get support from Microsoft for SP3: see this post for more details: blogs.msdn.com/mthree/archive/2008/06/11/support-options-061108.aspx
