Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 won't send messages or attach files
TB 2.0.0.23 (with Windows XP) won't send any messages. It spends a long time contacting SMTP and then gives up with an error message. Previous versions didn't give this trouble. Reinstal does not cure problem. Neither does TB 3 Beta 4. Yahoo mail going to the same SMTP works fine.
Also version 23 freezes when you try to attach files.

Roland,
Answers to your questions 1.my outgoing server is at&t (smtp.ameritech.yahoo..com) 2. POP 3.Port 25 (tried 587-doesn't work either)
Secure conncections "No".My incoming server is Terabyte is not a problem. Only Talkback.4. Reinstalled TB 2.0.0.23, tried Beta 3 release 4. Using latest Outlook Express with the same server settings as TB works fine. Yahoo mail (mail.yahoo.com) also works. I am not actually sure what the smtp for that service is.

Inappropriate?I have a very similar problem with TB20023, on both my computers. Since two days I suddenly cannot send messages. The error is '

-Imagine error in outgoing mailserver as also 'smtp.web.de', depending on which account I cannot send from.-
One computer is an HP notebook:
Vista home premium and TB20023
TB Extensions KLAntispam 8.0 (Kaspersky extension)
Talkback 2.00.9
German dictionary.
I made no changes before this happened. Tried forum advice: deleted password in password manager of web.de outgoing mailserver and closed TB, but on reopening and sending did not ask me for PW but gave same error message.
mail service provider: I have both gmx.com and web.de accounts set up.
POP protocol
server settings1: smtp.web.de, port 25, use TLS if possible (but also does not work if nothing is chosen), Use 'Username and PW' enabled.
server settings2: mail.gmx.com, port 25, no secure connection, Use 'Username and PW' enabled.
On PC: WinXP with TB20023
TB Extensions KLAntispam 8.0 (Kaspersky extension)
Talkback 2.00.9
English dictionary.
I also made no changes before this happened. Tried forum advice here too: deleted password in password manager of web.de outgoing mailserver and closed TB, but on reopening and sending did not ask me for PW but gave same error message.
mail service provider: I have both verizon and web.de accounts set up.
POP protocol
web.de server settings: smtp.web.de, port 25, use TLS if possible (but also does not work if nothing is chosen), Use 'Username and PW' enabled.
verizon server settings:This works! I can send emails via the verizon account.
outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net, port 25, no secure connection, use 'Username and PW' enabled.
Please help!
Silky

Inappropriate?Hi,
after searching forums I found something that worked: for both web.de and gmx accounts, I changed the outgoing mail server port to 587 - that worked! I had not tried that before, as I had checked the providers support pages and how-to's and there the smtp port was named as 25 - so I thought it was OK.
Silky -
I tried Port 587 but it didn't work.. My smtp is ameritech.yahoo.com and I am using Windows XP sp3

Inappropriate? We have a the same problem TB2.0.0.23 running WIN XP sp3, I have about 6 users who can't send out emails with attachments. We use Google Apps.
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com SSL port 993
SMTP server: smtp:gmail.com SSL 465
I have tried changing the port to 587 no luck. -
I can't find anything online about this problem. Did you ever figure it out? -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem, but using Vista Home Premium. One thing I have noticed is that I also don't receive any mail unless I close TB and restart. If I click on Get Mail I get "This folder is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages." No matter how long I wait, nothing happens. It is frozen in this state.
All this just started happening today.
POP Earthlink.net; smtpauth.earthlink.net; port 587; Secure Connection =No

I’m Confused
-
Inappropriate?it seems that gmail has some strange issue on smtp server.
-
Inappropriate?I don't believe it is a smtp server issue, because multiple smtp servers being used by everyone in this post (earthlink, yahoo, gmail etc). It seems that Thunderbird is timing out during the outbound process. It does not happen to all of our users.
-
Inappropriate? So please tell me how it is possible because with other accounts (hotmail, private email domain, corporate email box) it is working.... only with gmail I have this issue...
-
Inappropriate?Walter:: I will reply to your problem in my next reply, we are still missing your exact error message though :-) Please post it if you can
silky:
glad you were able to fix your problem yourself ! (your problem was different so in the future please start a new topic rather than commenting a similar but clearly different problem with a different email provider)
pscosu
you have a different problem than Walter's:
1. please double check your google for domains settings against the official settings
2. please start a new topic and tell us the error message if any as well as your outgoing settings for your gmail for domains SMTP server (userid, server, port, ssl)

for what it's worth I can send using both gmail and gmail apps for domains email accounts from Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 on Windows XP 2.0.0.23 without problems

you have a different problem than Walter's:

Inappropriate?Hi Walter:
1. Please post the error message you see in Thunderbird
2. Please do a backup and compact your folders
http://kb.mozillazine.org/MozBackup
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_...
3. As for your settings (it looks like 587 should work):
.my outgoing server is at&t (smtp.ameritech.yahoo..com) 2. POP 3.Port 25 (tried 587-doesn't work either) Secure conncections "No".
I) What email address are you trying to send email from?
If you are trying to send for a non ameritech.net email e.g.
walter@fundomain.com
then
the smtp server of ameritech.net will block you
II) What is your SMTP User name (Tools->Account Settings->Outgoing Server (SMTP)->Edit-User Name) ?
From what I am reading at:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/amfaq/5...
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/smal...
http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php...
it appears your User Name should be something like:
walter@ameritech.net
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?I'm having the exact same problem as Silky, but running Windows-XP professional. I had no problems with the earlier version on Windows-98.
I want the older version. I'm now searching my hard drives to see if I have an older copy.
I’m annoyed and par-annoyed
-
Inappropriate?I go the same problem since a week ago. If I send a message same message as silky 23 days ago apears. I tried the suggested options like TLS port 465 and 587. NO result!! Sending via outlook and another provider works. There is something WRONG with gmail.
I’m DISAPPOINTED
-
Inappropriate? If using port 465, it should be set to SSL rather than TLS.
It turns out that version changes and operating system changes are not what caused my problem, but the change from dial-up to DSL. My ISP (internet service provider) blocks my outgoing mail server. They are presently looking to see if there is a work around, but so far I'm just sending through other mail servers, including the one my ISP provides.

Inappropriate?I just installed Thunderbird and used photos in the sigature. When I try to send an email it says "attaching images" and never changes or sends.
