McAfee Trojan Warning (possible false positive) when downloading Thunderbird
McAfee 8.7i Patch1 with hotfix installed gives a trojan warning when downloading Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 . Could only download to a folder without McAfee protection activated. I 'd just like to ask You if there is another way of correct downloading as i' m sure this being a false positive from McAfee 8.7i (by the way someone else got this problem ?). Thanks in advance for Your gentle support.

Hi everybody:
We received word from McAfee that the false positive has been removed. Please update your anti-virus definitions.
from their email
Solution -
McAfee(R) Artemis technology provides real-time protection that secures
enterprises and consumers from threats as they strike and much quicker
than traditional signatures can be deployed. As Artemis is updated in
real-time there is no requirement to wait for a full DAT update nor to
use an EXTRA.DAT intermediate solution. Simply wait approximately 30
minutes and this false will no longer exist or trigger on your system.
Depending on the network settings you have or the caching involved
between your system and ours it may take slightly longer for this false
alarm to be resolved.
Solution -
To ensure that you have the maximum available capability of detecting
and cleaning this malware on your system, please make sure you have the
latest engine.
DAT updates are available at:

I’m happy

Inappropriate?Same happen to me. In my case even if I deactivate McAfee I am able to run Thunderbird but program does not responde at all.
-
Inappropriate?Robert: I believe this is a false alarm based on Mcafee DAT 5766 passing:
http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/8a...
Please upgrade to DAT 5766 and try again
Obo717: Try DAT 5766 or later and try again. For your 2nd problem of Thunderbird not starting please create a separate Get Satisfaction topic by following these instructions:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/...

Inappropriate?First problem I solved by turning of temporary McAfee Antivirus and then I downloded Thunderbird. Anyway I will do the upgrade.
Second one: I uninstalled Thunderbird, removed all folders from 'Program Files' and 'Application Data', rebooted Windows and then installed it. Untill now works fine. I think there is no need to create a separate topic.
Great thanks
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Hi - I'm still getting Thunderbird blocked from installing by McAfee, due to McAfee claiming the presence of trojan Artemis!DAA2175088F5.
Using McAfee Security Center v 9.15.135, and have justed updated virus info to DAT 5790. Trying to download Thunderbird v 2.0.0.23 - it downloads but then McAfee prevents installation.

Inappropriate?electionaddict: Where did you download Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 from? From mozillamessaging.com? if not from where?
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Yes - from mozillamessaging,com - specifically: http://www.mozillamessaging.com/thund...
-
Inappropriate?I have found a way around it. I downloaded Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 and then immediately installed the update to 2.0.0.23. McAfee seemed happy with this, so it seems to be the original installation file for build 0.23 that it has the problem with. My immediate problem has been solved by this get-around. Thanks for your help.

Inappropriate?Hi electionaddict:
glad you found a solution!
I think I know what the problem might be. It might be with your GB version. Are you using the Great Britain i.e. UK locale version of Thunderbird? Please confirm which version you are using.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Yup GB locale of Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 is flagged as having a trojan by McAfee version 5790, aargh!

Inappropriate?I'm getting an trojan message from McAfee DAT dated 3/11
tried downloading both us and gb versions (from Australia).
Where can i get 2.0.22?
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Here's where I found 2.0.0.22:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US...
Actually, just noticed that it's the US version (don't know if there's any actual difference) which may also explain why McAfee had no problem with it. -
