Long wait for New Releases
Why are the waits getting longer now for New Releases. I put New Releases I want at the top of my list and they are usually, long wait, or very long wait. I know Netflix has grown in popularity but it seems like they don't account for this by buying a larger quantity of dvds. It usually takes three weeks or longer to get a New Release. I usually watch a movie a night so I go through quite a few. Please order more new dvds!!

Inappropriate? It is my thought that if they were to buy more of the new releases up just so that they could account for the bombardment of customers wanting only the new stuff, they would then be stuck with an influx of discs once the rush dies down, and would be a waste of money for them.
Though I of course would like there to be a better availability, especially for those who pay more to get Blu-ray versions of them, would Netflix want to be stuck with 10,000 copies of Vantage Point after everyone realizes it is crap and stops renting it?

Inappropriate?I understand the need to remain profitable to remain in business, so, grudgingly, I accept the slow response time for new releases.
However, if I might make a suggestion...why not make new releases available on instant viewing. This way we call all watch Vantage Point, see that it is crap, give it a bad rating, and remove it from our queue.
Netflix, seeing the rapid fall of the movie demand, could alter their buy commitments and save themselves some money and we could all see the movies with outstanding advertisements and lackluster content. Potentially a win-win. -
Good thought. I'd certainly remove all of the new releases from my Q if I could watch them instantly. It is a no brainer... see it in 2 minutes or wait 1 month for the buzz to die down for it.
Hopefully Netflix comes across this site and sees that people are frustrated with just a few aspects of the service. Overall, they have a great company, but their customer service (Including listening to feedback like yours) has gone off the deep end these past few years. -
Inappropriate?I've been a Netflix member since 2000. I have never had it take this long to get new releases. I don't think it would hurt them to order more of the new releases. Don't they sell used ones? It seems like they used to anyway. Seems like a win win situation for them.
-
Well, they used to sell pre-viewed DVD's on their site, but you'll notice that tab is gone completely. They announced either late last year or early this year that they would no longer sell them.
I had hoped they would continue, and extend their inventory to include Blu-ray movies as well...
So at this point, I don't really know what happens to the used copies, other than they are thrown away when they become too scratched to watch. -
Inappropriate?Yeah, some of those scratched discs should be pulled from service a little sooner. I've had a few get 3/4s of the way through the movie then freeze up. Very frustrating.
-
Thankfully, that has only happened to me 1 or 2 times in my subscription history. It is very frustrating though, especially if it skips past a very important scene :O -
Inappropriate?the long wait is because some studio's are making netflick's wait 3 months or so for new releases. that is why we have a powerplay at our local Hollywood video for our new releases. The staff is great at our local store and they almost always have what we are looking for and if they don't then they will make sure we get it as soon as it comes in. Netflicks is great for older stuff but for new releases they are not the way to go.
-
Yeah, we trust someone who cannot spell Netflix, and is speaking about a nearly bankrupt video store.
Netflix is absolutely the way to go. Imagine going to Blockbuster the day a movie is released, and seeing a wall of 40 boxes, every single one empty. How is that any improvement over actually having a chance to rent the same title, or 6 other new releases on the day of their release at Netflix?
You don't understand how it works, and are spreading misinformation. -
Inappropriate?I'm with you Dean! I thought the delay was because where I lived in the country. Waiting 2-3 weeks for a new release is real turn off for Netflix. I waited over 2 months to see the latest Ice Age movie....no joke. Why?
If I don't get my movies in the mail on Saturday, I'm pretty much assured I won't be getting a Tuesday new release. That's crap.
We desperately need another company to compete against Netflix. This crap would stop if someone was going head to head with them.
