Don't turn away willing volunteers
Leave registration desk open during events. I was a volunteer for several different time slots. On two occasions, I reported for duty, only to learn that the desk was closed during a plenary session. The only problem was that there were many people coming in who needed to get their badges, had questions about registration, etc., and none of the NN staffers were available to help. It created some ill will and a lot of confusion. I volunteered, and wanted to help, but couldn't do much except offer lame excuses about why we couldn't give a badge to a speaker.

Inappropriate?I agree with the suggestion that the registration desk should always be staffed, though it didn't affect me.

I witnessed some sponsors who couldn't get in to see Howard Dean because the registration desk was closed. Don't know if they wangled their way in or not. -
Inappropriate? We've always closed the registration desk during keynotes so that no one misses out, but we can certainly look at keeping it open next year. Thanks, by the way, for willingly volunteering.
