Moderation and session interference
First off, NN was GREAT this year. But I had two small problems:
1) the moderation in some of my sessions wasn't great. I had two sessions that I was really excited about, but the moderator was not aggressive enough and the first presenter talked for about 1/2 the time, when there were 4 other presenters to get through. That was a bit frustrating - maybe make sure the moderators know to cut off each presenter after their time is up?
2) I think it was Saturday at 1:30 and 3:00, there were just too many sessions. I had at least 3 in each slot that I was really interested in, and they all seemed like they would appeal to NPO folks like me. Maybe there's a way to limit the amount of sessions or group the sessions by category and have one session from each category in each time slot?
Thanks for a great conference!

Inappropriate? We're definitely going to think about the whole schedule for next year, both horizontally (panels per session) and vertically (sessions per day). One hates to say no to any good idea that some members of the community are going to be interested in; the question is how do make these decisions in a fair way. But, I mean, you're never going to be able to see everything you want live -- that's (in part) why the video is there.
On moderators: we are talking about ways to guide and/or train moderators in the future. Each panel may lend itself to a different feel, but there are general guidelines worth sharing. -
Less panelists per panel is one way. I have seen the best ones with 3 or less. Some could have up to 5 depending on the subject and length of the session, but if it is only an hour, 3 or less is best. -
Inappropriate?I'd much rather have to miss some good things, than have the problem "solved" by having fewer good things to miss. There was never a time block in which I didn't find panels I really wanted to go to, so the only ways to miss fewer of them would be to either have fewer on the schedule (I don't like that option) or to have more time blocks by having a longer conference.
Last year I felt time blocks were too closely packed together and there wasn't time to catch my breath or talk to people after panels. I don't want to go back to that. If the options are "pack more blocks into the same length of conference" or "have fewer panels", I'd rather stick with how we did it this year, even though it's frustrating to know I missed some I wish I could've gone to.
