No Netroots Hierarchy Please
For me the expert panel/rapt audience model didn't work. A better format would have been half of the time spent hearing from the "experts" and the other half of the time a moderated discussion with full involvement of the attendees.
It seemed to me that several panelists used some of their talk time to present their credentials.... their entree to being asked to be on the panel.

Inappropriate? One of the big things we're going to look at is the format of panels. We've gotten the best response from panels that include more discussion, so we'll be encouraging panel organizers to think outside the box and also doing some panelist/moderator training.

Inappropriate? While there are some discussions that may work better in lecture format, those should be few. We also need to do a better job of labeling the panels as such. In addition to the format of the panels we will be looking into how the layout of the rooms can lend itself to be more conducive to casual discussion and debate.

Inappropriate? For lectures in the big hall, discussions don't work as well but for individual panels/workshops, I agree with the half/half. I found myself getting distracted at too much talk and not enough audience participation.
Handouts should have their credentials on them. Too many times they talked so fast or mumbled that I couldn't catch it all for my blog notes anyway, and had to look it up online or in my program.
Mary, thank you. I like that this is something you are focusing on. It was a pleasure meeting you at NN too.
Additionally, the presenters need to come with more preparedness and handouts (on CD in advance like others mentioned in the swag thread...flash drives/jump are too expensive).
Some of my favorite bloggers actually were a bit boring in person, but I think it was the nature of the structure.
You know what else I would like to see? That each one end with a set of action items. This year the ones I attended (though most were interesting) were not geared toward action and it is a must if you are in front of 2000 activists or potential activists to ask what you need them to do. It can be simple actions or larger ones but this is the life bread of a movement.
