Saturday Night Fever!
Saturday night was somewhat dead as people were tired after 3 days of conventioneering and wanted to get food. To make sure everyone comes Saturday Night, make it a banquet with food, so people don't need to leave to go get meals. Additionally, throw the biggest name you got on Saturday night, then turn the event into a party after the speaking is over. With Chocolate Fountains.

Inappropriate?Believe it or not, at the Whole Foods world HQ down the street from the convention center, they HAVE a chocolate fountain!
Maybe not a banquet, but at least a box lunch.. -
Inappropriate?We're going to look at ways of pumping up our Saturday night schedule more. One problem was that the afternoon schedule was so packed. As far as the speakers, we're sort of at the mercy of their schedule, but we'll definitely do what we can to make Saturday night have more of a bang.

There was no real entertainment there either and for such a high priced event, I would like to see a big Sat. food and entertainment display like you get with DemocracyFest and NCMR. Both have huge Saturday night events with music, speakers, films, food, etc. and they are about 1/2 to 1/4th the cost of Netroots Nation. -
Inappropriate?We opted out of doing big dinners because people were so excited about getting to explore Austin at night. But I'm taking all these ideas and we'll look at what we can do for next year.

Inappropriate?That's the problem: food -- especially hot food -- costs money. And in terms of entertainment, we relied on the LL comedians during the events and the sponsored parties thereafter.
In terms of big names for Saturday night, one thing I don't think was mentioned before is that all Democratic Senators were away for a retreat that weekend. This was scheduled after we booked our weekend, and it did restrict our options some. -
Inappropriate?What about cold food? Sustainable, good, less hassle? OC could be in charge.
I like the idea of evening entertainment. Speakers late into the night on Sat. doesn't cut it. I want music and dancing.
Loved Donna Edwards but she should have been earlier. Cut off should be all speakers done by no later than 9 pm.

Inappropriate?I like the idea of drinks and light cold buffet starting around 5:30 or 6 and going till 8 latest - then plenty of time to hit the town for more food and or parties.
