Seriously? I can't resume play without a wi-fi connection?
I lose all my progress in Rolando without wi-fi.
This is a baaaad baaaad thing. I don't have wi-fi at my house. I'm sure I'm not alone in that respect. So what am I supposed to do? Walk to the library every time I want to play? No. That would be silly. What if I want to play during a long car trip or something? Am I screwed?
The funny thing is that even without wi-fi, the first level (the only one I have access to w/o wi-fi) still has all the awards I earned while playing previously. (e.g. time challenge, gem challenge, etc)
I'd like to quote the description of "Rolando" in the App Store:
Where do you mention that a wi-fi connection is required?
Here's how you should have handled things:
Force players to activate their Plus+ accounts before beginning the game (so my post here doesn't happen)
Save a player's progress locally on their device, then use Plus+ to back up that progress.
If you're about to say that an "iSave" takes up too much space because it saves your progress within the actual level, (at least that's how I think it works) keep reading. Mid-level iSaves can keep their wi-fi dependency. But you must let the app itself keep track of level completion. That is, if you aren't near a wi-fi network, you can't resume your mid-level progress, (if any) but you can start over on that level, instead of wiping the levels you've completed and asking you to start over.
I'm surprised that I'm the first one to complain about this. Either I'm right and everyone else is lazy, or I'm an idiot and I'm doing something wrong.
Please shed some light on the issue.

Inappropriate?Hi Dustin,
I believe this post is in response to this other thread: http://getsatisfaction.com/ngmoco/top...
Let me put you at ease! Yes, network iSave works exactly the way you expect!
The issue in question from the other post is a small chance when you first sign up for Plus+ where some users may be exiting the app too quickly before Plus+ and the game can finish syncing with each other.
Basically, this is the same sort of problem that happens across all services, and the reason why things like Xbox tell you to NOT turn off your console before saving is complete.
If you ARE experiencing an instance where your progress seems to be missing after signing up for Plus+, just simply fire up the game with an internet connection (wifi or 3g) and let Plus+ finish talking to the game.
You should see that your progress is now back, exactly where you left off.
After that, you can fire up the game without an internet connection. If you want though, you can start the game with a connection enabled to allow Plus+ to synchronize with all your offline progress.
Be mindful though, if you do delete your app before allowed Plus+ to synchronize with offline data, you will be restored to your last known sync.
Hopefully this resolves your concerns. Please feel free to ask me anything else.

Inappropriate?Thank you for your quick response.
As of right now, when I launch Rolando, I click Start > Start Game, and the Rolando level selection book opens. The only level I can play is "Hello Rolando" in the Honeycup Meadows, despite the fact that I've already finished Honeycup Meadows, while I was playing in the vicinity of a wi-fi network.
I know that returning to that wi-fi network will allow Plus+ to re-sync my progress to my iPod touch. My only worry is that I won't be able to start up Rolando (with my progress intact) in the absence of a wi-fi network, but it seems that that's not the case:
After that, you can fire up the game without an internet connection.
Your post has returned a good portion of my faith to Rolando.
There is a chance that I exited Rolando before it could finish syncing. I'll do some more testing.
I’m more confident

Inappropriate? Thanks dustin, I look forward to your confirmation.

Inappropriate?Hoo boy. Something's wrong here. I've never seen this many bugs in an app before. =P
Ok, I connected to my school's wi-fi network today. My progress was not restored, so I started the over on the first level. I completed the first three levels, then went back to the main screen (still in Rolando). Then, I clicked Start > Start Game again, and I see this:
Not only did it not focus on the most recently unlocked level, it's also missing the level marker(s). Speaking of unlocking things:
I haven't even gotten out of Honey cup meadows, and yet all of the secret levels are unlocked? Hmm.
This one is probably unrelated to the problem's I've been having:
It was probably just a result of me touching the screen too quickly.
In this picture, you can see that some of the level markers have vanished, and there's a gap in the dotted line for some reason:
I then decided to check the secret levels again, and believe it or not, they were all locked again:
Additionally, (also unrelated) I got the red (center) Rolando to disappear:
Soo, yeah.
Here's why I think I'm having these save game problems:
When I try to visit Plus+'s website at school, I get blocked by the network filter that the admins set up.
I discovered this after clicking on the activation link in the e-mail from Plus+. My iPod touch tried to take me to Plus+'s website, but got redirected by the filter. However, a minute later I get another e-mail from Plus+ saying that my account had been activated, so I figured that I could connect to Plus+ despite the network filter (which is by vicomsoft, by the way)
What do you think?

Inappropriate?Aw, come on. I didn't mean to scare you away!
Here's another update:
After syncing on my friend's wi-fi network, (almost) everything is back to normal. My progress doesn't erase itself when I'm offline, and returning to the wifi connection after playing doesn't wipe anything either. The only thing that's still weird is the fact that all of the secret levels are unlocked, even though I'm only in the second quarter of the game.
Is there any way to delete all of my progress in Rolando? I'd rather start over than have all of the secret levels unlocked. It's annoying. I just want a clean slate.
There's probably nothing I can do, but could one of you developers manually wipe my account or something? (Assuming that you guys created Plus+)

Inappropriate?I agree, but I'm not so sure about what you said at the beginning. Where are you getting your information? I'm not disagreeing, but I'm just wondering how you came to that conclusion.

Inappropriate?Hi Dustin,
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We're going to look deeper into how proxies and firewalls effect Plus+, but it seems like you resolved the issue as we expected/intended.
I'm not sure why your secret levels are unlocked, but seems like a cool side effect. We don't currently have a reset game option in Rolando.
