Inappropriate?Another new sentinel format? I guess they want to censor the negative (accurate) comments

OS sucks.

Nope...this is an open forum...we welcome your feedback. If you have an idea or suggestion on how to make it better please use this tool as a way to do such. We appreciate your feedback. -
Inappropriate?are you going to block ACCURATE but negative (no profanity) comments? you know exactly what I am talking about, so dont give me some corporate answer
-

Inappropriate? The color scheme is horrible. The layout isn't terrible, but it seems to make the Sentinel look low rent.

Inappropriate?Hi Eric, sorry you're not a fan of the color scheme. Could you be more specific about how the layout makes the site look low rent?
Thanks very much for the feedback! -
Inappropriate? So then accurate and factual comments like
"people of the the Negro race commit a higher percentage of crimes then other races"
And
"Areas with large Puerto Rican populations have declined in assesed value"
will be allowed? -
Why in the world do you find it necessary to make such negative remarks? How about this.. Jerry Lee Lewis, Robert Blake, Hank Williams, Sr./Jr. take your pick, all abused women too so what's your point? I was talking about international superstars. But since you are a racist and no doubt a Republican, here you go:
Republican racist pedophile and United States Senator Strom
Thurmond had sex with a 15-year old black girl which produced a child.
* Republican pastor Mike Hintz, whom George W. Bush commended
during the 2004 presidential campaign, surrendered to police after
admitting to a sexual relationship with a female juvenile.
* Republican legislator Peter Dibble pleaded no contest to having
an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
* Republican advertising consultant Carey Lee Cramer was sentenced
to six years in prison for molesting two 8-year old girls, one of whom
appeared in an anti-Gore television commercial.
* Republican fundraiser Lawrence E. King, Jr. organized child sex
parties at the White House during the 1980s.
* Republican lobbyist Craig J. Spence organized child sex parties
at the White House during the 1980s.
Is that necessary...I think not. Read the articles and keep race out of it. I will not understand this southern thought process. Do like you tell others...If you don't like it...leave. -
Inappropriate? You new web page "s*cks. Before, I had a nice clean page and could see my news. Now I guess I'll have to read by new on Yahoo because I can't stand the new web page. GIVE US THE OPTION TO GO BACK TO THE OLD VERSION!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Alex, sorry you're not a fan of the new site. Any ideas on how we can make it better?
Thanks for the feedback! -
Inappropriate?I do not like the new format. It makes me have to read thru every headline slower when I'm used to reading it quickly as I scroll down the page.

Hi John, sorry you're not a fan of the new format. Any ideas on how we can adjust our new layout to make it more scannable?
Thanks for the feedback! -
Inappropriate?I was comfortable with the old format. There is no need to change what does not need fixing. I don't see how this new format will sell more advertising or get more people to buy the paper.

Inappropriate?OMG...This looks like someone ate a big breakfast full of news and threw up on the homepage.

Trang,
Sorry you don't like it as much as your friends and former coworkers who designed it. :-) -
Hey Matt,
This is not a jab at my friends and former coworkers. I personally know they have the utmost talent in their field. However, I go in with the understanding that the ultimate design decision is not always up to the designer. There are many hands that stir the pot regardless of the talent present. I simply gave my opinion. Take it or leave it. I know this will not be the site forever and anticipate future changes. -
I agree with Trang -- why the constant website redesigns??? Leave well enough alone and please focus on covering the news! Bonus -- you wouldn't have to sit around answering all the hate mail. -
Inappropriate?Hey Trang, sorry you're not a fan of the new look. However, we do hope all of our OrlandoSentinel.com staff is indeed having news for breakfast every day.
-
That is all I expect. :) -
Inappropriate?New layout is too busy. Not "steamlined" at all IMO.
Very hard to find/ see sectons as they're scattered
all over the place. The color scheme is awful. It looks
like it had some type of larger corporate standard glommed
onto it.
Nice try, but not a win in any sense of the word. -
Inappropriate?Hey Tomm, sorry that you don't like the new look, but we very much appreciate your feedback. Our hope with the various modules on our home page is to provide a quick sampling of what is new in each of the various sections of the site. We'll keep working on ideas to make the new site as browseable as possible. Thanks again!
-
Inappropriate?I agree, the new site is extremely busy. The old format was much more streamlined. I used to check the site several times a day, but the past couple days I've gone elsewhere for news.
-
Inappropriate?I hate that you have to sign in and create a handle in order to leave a comment here.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Nice layout, but I would like to see the social network links again for posting articles to Facebook and so on.
-
Inappropriate? One plus: the tabbed browsing works better than the old cascading menus.
Many minuses:
--Hate the color scheme. None of these colors reflect anything about Central Florida. They're depressing--the colors in the crayon box none of the kids want to use (burnt umber, chartreuse). Blech.
--Having to register to comment on stories is ridiculous and suppresses free community expression. Plus, I've registered and STILL can't comment.
--Non-registered users can't even READ the comments. So much for interactivity.
--What's up with that stupid "Vote" button at the end of a story? What are we supposed to vote for??
--Enough already with the wall-to-wall Casey Anthony. You're allegedly a newspaper, not a tabloid.
Back to the drawing boards, propeller heads. You have some serious work to do!!
I’m annoyed
-
Ive been clicking that "vote" icon repeatedly cause I thought it was for if you hate having your forum software yanked out from under you. Matt etc, you all do relaize that there are many free forum softwares available right? -
Inappropriate? This design is the last in a series of bad decisions that have been made. My suggestion to make it better: change it back to exactly to how the site looked before. There was nothing wrong with it, nothing to "streamline" or make more efficient. It was just fine. Get better staff members who can write better articles that will attract and keep readers; don't toy with the format and confuse the few that you have remaining.
-

XtraTall said: "Don't toy with the format and confuse the few (readers) that you have remaining"...... BRILLIANT! Well said. -
Inappropriate?Hello. I have the same complaint regarding the lack pf comment ability. I read in some replies that there is a place to register that will allow comments. How do I register and will the registration make commenting available where I don't see it or has the Sentinel just reduced the number of articles it allows comments on.
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Guess I had to sign up in order to post the previous question??? Duh??? But i still wanted to know why no comments section on most ,if not all, articles????
-
Inappropriate? You guys have sacrificed the design process and overloaded the 10lbs of content of a 5lb homepage.
CMS has advanced the web, but too many people are making sites without considering the design or user experience. This website is like a heads-up-display in a car. Sure it's great to have instant access to all of the information, but if you can't see the road you're going to crash. -
Inappropriate? The Orlando Sentinel is so busy being flushed down the toilet that the few skeleton staff members who are left are grabbing at straws. What possible logic can there be -- when your readership and subscription/ad revenues are plummeting --- to drastically rearrange your website and confuse the few readers you have left??
Prior to the website redesign, the comments section attached to each article was filled with literally thousands of comments. Thousands of comments equals thousands of clicks and that translates to ad revenue.
Take a look at the comments on the Sentinel's "new and improved" website. Only a handful here and there. So how will your sales reps spin those numbers to potential advertisers?
I remember when it was a pretty darned good mid-sized paper. It sickens me to see what it's turning into.
Keep up the great work and I predict 633 N. Orange will be vacant within the next few years.
I’m totally disgusted
