How is the star rating determined?
I was reading an article today which had been rated 3.82 by 10 people. Can I assume 10 people voted a total of 38.2 stars between them. How is that possible? http://delong.typepad.com/sdj/2009/05...

Good question!
We use few mechanisms to reflect true ratings better. we use some mathematical tricks to reflect age of ratings, ease spam effect and number of raters.
The number you usually see is not far from raw average but not always identical to raw average.
we feel it is more 'correct' to show then raw average. -
