Hi Hari. Your blogs are on "installed" wordpress servers. Not hosted on wordpress.com.
Unfortunately we still do not support wordpress.com -
Inappropriate?I believe this, if available on wordpress.com blogs, would be very useful to many people (including myself). I hope this widget will soon support wordpress.com blogs. Goodluck!

Inappropriate?I don't understand, why this is not available for wordpress.com and don't see any reason for wordpress.com to block this kind of cool widget.
http://laghukathaa.wordpress.com -
Thanks Dilip... we agree! Comments like yours will help WordPress understand this eventually and make us an approved widget... But we have no idea when they will finally do so... :-( -
Inappropriate? If Wordpress doesn't have plan to make this VERY-IMPORTANT-PLUGIN installed on wordpress.com blogs, ok then, i will leave it.
Well, I choose blogger.com, more friendly for me, free to customize.

Inappropriate?I found outbrain being used by Picapp when I started to use their stock images on my Wordpress.com hosted blog http://bkkphorographer.wordpress.com/.
I was surprised to see this discussion has been going on for more than a year now with no visible progress. Maybe it is better for users to contact WordPress directly. What's the best way to do that?
My guess is that the problem isn't technical but in prioritization at WordPress. I think WordPress is great and the people there are responsive. So some friendly pressure should push outbrain up in the queue.
I’m concerned
-
Hey bangkok photographer - thanks for your comment! I agree with you that this situation is borderline ridiculous. The guys at WP are indeed very nice and we're very friendly with them, but for some reason it is nearly impossible to get approved by them as a widget for Wordpress.com hosted blogs.
Our performance is outstanding and we have rarely had any complaints from our tens of thousands of bloggers, so any technical reason would be nothing more than an excuse. I am as mystified as you are by the reason for Outbrain not being approved for WP hosted blogs.
A direct nudge with them would be greatly appreciated. I will try to find out what's the best way to do that.
Thanks again for your comment here! -
Inappropriate? My guess is that WP consider voting/rating part of their core functionality and it's a project they are working on. That's only a guess, but I used to work in the business so I know how companies think.
Good luck! If I can put some friendly pressure on them let me know. -
I posted about Outbrain and WordPress on by blog at http://bkkphotographer.wordpress.com/...
Do you have any thoughts on my comment about people's different ideas on star-ratings? My three star may be your one-star because we have a different distribution in mind. -
Inappropriate?Hi everyone --
Raanan here from WordPress.com. We appreciate the enthusiasm and I think Outbrain is doing some great work.
We see lots of plugins and widgets that are used with self-hosted WordPress. Over 6800 plugins are listed in the official directory alone: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/.
When we look at adding support for 3rd party services on WordPress.com we look for what our users are requesting, as well as new and unique functionality. We support lots of 3rd party services like Google Maps, Vimeo, Digg, and many others: http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=sh...
Re: ratings. A few months ago we added a full range of ratings options as part of our PollDaddy integration: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2009/07/... and http://en.support.wordpress.com/ratings/ . And we've also had a related-posts feature for a while now that's very popular: http://en.support.wordpress.com/relat... .
Happy to chat with any WordPress.com bloggers directly if there is interest: http://raanan.com/contact-me/ and the Outbrain guys know how to contact me directly as well :)
cheers. -
Thanks for stopping by to comment here, Raanan. These links are very useful. I'll keep bugging you about ways we can get Outbrain and WP to work together... ;-) -
Inappropriate?Raanan: Thanks for the info. I admit I foolishly missed the "Ratings" panel in my Dashboard. I enabled the ratings on my blog. I like the way I can label my stars to give guidance to a rater on "my" convention for rating. That could help consistency. And the "Nero Option" is ultimately simple.
My reservation with the WP rating is that it is only visible when I "open" a post by clicking on its title (or did I miss an option?). I suspect not many readers open posts unless the writer uses the "more ..." widget.
I guess the question for Outbrain is - what's the advantage to a WordPress blogger in using your service vs PollDaddy's integration with WP?
I’m better informed!
-
Outbrain ties together the ratings and recommended links in one coherent service. The feedback received from your audience (via 5-star ratings, or thumbs-up) goes into our algorithm and is used to make better, more personalized recommendations for each of your readers.
The PollDaddy service looks pretty nice - probably covers your needs on ratings. But it is not tied to the "possibly related links" service, and any feedback received does *not* improve those recommendations. In fact, those 'possibly related links' are only matched on context and are one-size-fits-all regardless of what each of your readers is interested in.
I hope this helps. Now you are *much* more informed!... ;-) -
Inappropriate?Yes Indeed! I thought that was Outbrain's value proposition. The other point may be that if i have multiple blogs i can consolidate the ratings in a single Outbrain account. I'd like to be able to apply the same notion to Flickr and PicasaWeb: I use both to display my photos.
A Problem with WP / PollDaddy is that I only see the rating widget if I "open" the blog post. Would you (proposed) WP integration enable readers to rate posts from the page they are on without opening each?
I’m much more informed!
-
Inappropriate?Yes - we do enable you to show the ratings both on the front page and on the specific post pages.
However, I don't see how you could use us (or for that matter - any other rating system) on Flickr and Picasa as they don't allow you to embed any HTML in your galleries there... -
Inappropriate?I'm no longer technical enough to posit a solution to that. I have used a Flickr add-in that uses a Grease Monkey script to add a feature to a photo's page. I have no idea if that technique will work for you.
Now what I could do is make a web site that uses the Flickr or Picasa APIs to view my photostream and then integrate Outbrain so I or others could rate the pictures.
Then maybe Outbrain could make "possibly related links" if I passed it metadata from each photo, for example the keywords and what sets and groups it's in (for Flickr).
We're way off the WordPress thread here, but you got me thinking.
I’m creative
-
Inappropriate?I too liked it. My blog: http://silentdreamz.wordpress.com
-
Inappropriate?Yes, I would also like to use the outbrain plugin on my wordpress.com blogs. It would allow me, and everyone else to have a really nice rating system that identifies who visits my blogs, have a rating per user, and suggest other posts. It would accumulate more people to surface at each blog post, and have content adjusted per each rating by suggestion.
Thanks.
Looking forward to outbrain
on wordpress.com blogs.
