Idea: Download youtube and hulu videos
There should be a way to download videos from sites like youtube or hulu or something. There are extensions in firefox to do this, but i think it would be cool if this was a built in feature.

YouTube support
Current status of YouTube issues (which really doesn't belong in this thread, but since people keep talking about it, I'm posting it here) is this: I fixed the YouTube issue yesterday in trunk and the fix will come out in 2.5.2.
YouTube downloads WILL work from ANY feed right now with 2.5.1, but they take a long time to start up (> 4 minutes).
YouTube support was working fine until this weekend when YouTube changed something on their side causing our code to stop working correctly.
The current breakage affects all versions of Miro.
Miro 2.5.2 will come out soon. In the meantime, YouTube downloads DO work, they just take a really long time to start up.
This is being tracked in bug 12018:
http://bugzilla.pculture.org/show_bug...
Regarding the 80kb/s maximum download speed issue, I'd love to get some help researching and fixing it.
Hulu download support
I'd love to get some help researching and implementing this, too.

Inappropriate?Miro can already download any video from YouTube that's embeddable.
Miro cannot download Hulu videos. If you know of a Firefox extension that allows you to download Hulu videos, I'd be interested in looking at it. -
Inappropriate?its not a firefox extension, but replay media catcher can download hulu videos, but it saves it in an flv file, so you have to convert it for most things. The only problem is that you have to get the paid version.
And how do you download youtube videos,; ive been looking around the interface, but i cant seem to find it -
Inappropriate?I know Hulu Video Downloadercan download Hulu video.
But for YouTube,
I think this YouTube Downloader Is the best one to download and convert YouTube video
I’m Happy
-
Inappropriate?Yeah this would definitively be nice and not only for YouToube, but for all Video hosting sites (If it is possible).
I know one can dl videos from youtube, but all the extra informations like comments, related videos and video reply s, etc. get lost and you end up browsing youtube with firefox again.
So it would really nice to browse sites within miro, like it is in Songbird... or at least for Youtube!
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? There is a cool product called Jaksta and I have never had any issues....does hulu and utube and works so well.
Try it as I think this may be just what you are looking for!

Inappropriate?Hi guys.
Not spaming but: www.vid2pc.com do the same and have great free tools to convert, extract sound, etc. -
Inappropriate? You used to be able to download youtube videos with Miro. I think in another post someone explained that youtube changed something so you can't any longer.
I’m missing this feature

Downloading YouTube videos works for me in Miro 2.0.5 as well as in trunk (which will become Miro 2.5).
Which version are you using, what platform are you using it on, and is it still not working? -
Inappropriate?This is a GREAT idea!!!http://getsatisfaction.com/participatoryculturefoundation/topics/idea_download_youtube_and_hulu_videos#
-
Inappropriate?Miro 2.5 does allow you to browse YouTube and download videos directly: http://www.getmiro.com/blog/2009/07/4...
-
But YouTube vids do not download at all. The download bar just stays at "starting up" for ever and never actually starts. -
Inappropriate?I love it!
A lot of my research covers things like dance and music performances where I either have to dissect the choreography or break the music down into segments and I can't fly half way around the world to see these performances at first hand. It's a great, great tool!
I’m contented

Inappropriate?Miro still does not download youtube in Version 2.5.1 (r9904). I haven't tried the nightly build.
Secondly, even when Miro does download youtube videos the speed is extremely less. I have tested this with a video by downloading it with Camino just immediately after I downloaded it with Miro. Miro gave me a speed of 30Kb/s whereas Camino gave me a speed of 200Kb/s (which is my ISP's maximum speed). I really can't understand what is so difficult about downloading youtube videos. I use javascript to download videos with Camino. How can it be difficult to do the same in Miro? Here's the javascript for downloading videos in mp4 just like Miro:
javascript:window.location.href%20=%20'http://youtube.com/get_video?video_id='%20+%20swfArgs['video_id']%20+%20"&fmt=18"%20+%20"&l="%20+%20swfArgs['l']%20+%20"&sk="%20+%20swfArgs['sk']%20+%20'&t='%20+%20swfArgs['t']; -
Chris: Miro does download YouTube videos, but it takes a while to start up. I fixed the bug yesterday and it'll come out in 2.5.2.
Previous versions have downloaded as well. I already explained why they max out at 80kbps. If you want to look into what's going on further and contribute a patch, I would very much appreciate it. -
Inappropriate?I have a solution to add a Youtube channel to Miro. You can use Gdata and insert this as a feed to Miro.
To my experience, watching Youtube channels is the best to do within a TV-player like Miro. Once you have Miro, you can add channels by adding the RSS-feeds. For Youtube Channels you can add this feed:
http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/us...
The only thing you change per channel is replacing USERNAME with the individual name of the channel. And then you add it to Miro as a feed.
Some of my favorite Youtube Channels I follow are:
* Sciencentral - for videonews on popular science
http://www.youtube.com/user/sciencentral
* Videojug - Life explained in funny videos
http://www.youtube.com/user/videojug
* Danispies - Enhancing my cooking experience
http://www.youtube.com/user/danispies
* Futureshorts - Great for watching artistic short movies
http://www.youtube.com/user/futureshorts
Enjoy :) -
You can also do a Video Search for YouTube and YouTube User both of which produce RSS feeds that you can turn into channels. -
Inappropriate?actually there are quite a few sites offering feeds for youtube. That is really not the issue. The fact that 80kb/s is the max speed (as Will Kahn-Greene said above),is the deal breaker as far as i am concerned!!
-
Inappropriate? And for me, and others, YouTube downloads are not possible from ANY Miiro feed.

Inappropriate?To Will Kahn-Greene,
The speed limit and download start delay problems seems to have been fixed in Version 2.5.2 (r9928).
Am I right?
Its working great for me now!! -
Inappropriate?well there is already a way to do youtube through miro. It would be great if you could do hulu but it's doubtful because hulu purposely has things set up to prevent that. but that doesn't mean it is impossible.
-
Inappropriate? There are many ways to download movies or videos from youtube and hulu. The one I'm using is tunebite, it records movies and tv shows from hulu and other sites like it and also from youtube, myspace etc. It's very nice cause it also converts the files automatically in the formats u need.

pls let me try first so that i will know -
