Stikkit export on its way...Howdy Stikkiteers,
For those of you who were wondering if Stikkit export (a la Sandy's) was in the works: it sure is!
You'll be able to download you calendar and to-do list (individually) in iCalendar format, peeps (aka contacts) as vCard, bookmarks as an HTML page, and a set of all your Stikkits in person-readable plain-text — open it up in your favorite text editor or web browser.
I'm doing some final testing and will be pushing an update with the functionality to the Stikkit site [http://stikkit.com] tomorrow (Monday, December 8th).
The shutdown date for both Stikkit and Sandy [http://iwantsandy.com] is Friday, December 19th, 2008 (at 5pm Pacific).
To make your stuff portable and importable, Sandy will gather all of your appointments, to-dos, contacts, bookmarks, lists, and notes into 6 standards-based files: iCalendar for appointments and to-dos, vCard for contacts, and plain text for notes, lists, and bookmarks.
I'll post again tomorrow as soon as the functionality is up on the site.
I hope you all had a relaxing weekend and are looking forward to a good week ahead.
Rael

Hi Michaelo. We built what we intended to build, shared a different way of thinking about and interacting with information, had a lot of fun and met an awful lot of incredible, interesting, caring people like yourself. What more could I ask for.
(I too have been surprised that Gmail doesn't do a better job of finding, drawing out, and adding events to your calendar. That said, they do make a rather nice email app :-).
All the best and happy holidays to you.

Hi Chris. I've actually always had a soft spot for the mangle (seriously!) I believe the last one I saw was either outside or nearby Jane Austen's house — but I may well be conflating two spots.
Thanks for the good wishes and I in turn wish you all the best.

** IMPORTANT UPDATE: I WANT SANDY AND STIKKIT SHUTDOWN PUSHED BACK TO 12/19 **
Howdy, folks!
I've been listening carefully to everything you've all been saying in response to Sandy and Stikkit going offline [http://gsfn.us/t/nq9].
What I've heard most is that 2 weeks was not enough notice and that you need a little more time for making the transition to alternate services — let alone getting used to the idea of Sandy and Stikkit going offline.
And so I'm extending the deadline to provide you that extra time. Sandy and Stikkit will be going offline at close of business (5pm PST) on Friday, December 19th, 2008 (that's just over two weeks from today).
I encourage you to join the discussion of alternatives [http://gsfn.us/t/nx8] so that you can get your self situated and find a productivity system that works well for you.
Most importantly, please do make use of the export functionality available so that you can take your data with you:
* I want Sandy: You'll find the export page for I want Sandy at http://iwantsandy.com/export . For more details, please see http://gsfn.us/t/o28 .
* Stikkit: Please take a gander at the Stikkit API page [http://stikkit.com/api] where you can grab a feed for each datum type (e.g. calendar as iCalendar, peeps as vCard). (Further export functionality will be provided should it be needed.)
I'll be having Sandy and Stikkit email their respective active users about the December 19th shutdown starting this evening.
Once again, I want to thank everyone who has made Values of n, Stikkit, and Sandy possible.
—R
P.s. Please forgive the cross-posting; I wanted to be sure y'all saw the updated date since I can't edit the original posting in GetSatisfaction. Visit http://gsfn.us/t/o2a for the discussion around the new date.

Hi Scott.
I've actually read your post of 3 days ago now over and over again as I've gone through this thread. And I've been trying to muster a reply that gets across just how much what you said was appreciated — is appreciated.
Instead, I shall just admit defeat and thank you for such an incredibly thoughtful response.
I wish you all the best.

Hi Karen. Our primary goal in working with Sandy was to make interacting with your information fun and productive — a little thing I call fun(ctionality). I'm so glad to hear you say that we succeeded in that goal. —R – Rael Dornfest, on December 05, 2008 07:49

Hi Bobsgirl. I feel we did pretty well with Sandy and Stikkit; there are always myriad things you wish you'd tweaked or twiddled still more, but I believe we created something different, useful, and fun to boot. And we had the chance to share with you a little of what had before only lived in our heads.
I've been on this pathway since I was 6 and had my first "conversation" with a computer (a massive behemoth at the end of a telephone line by way of a teletype machine) and have enjoyed (almost) every day doing the work I do ever since.
I look forward to continuing the journey building amazing products with the team at Twitter.
Thank you so much for the lovely post. I wish you all the best.
