djwhisky asked a question in FreeAgent Central on February 07, 2008 09:06:
When should I start using FreeAgent?I've been hanging around here for a few months, waiting for a few features that have now been implemented... I'm wondering what's going to be the easiest time for me to start using FreeAgent... my next VAT quarter starts in March, but my tax year starts in April...
I'm currently thinking March where I'll then just have a funny month in that tax year - I don't want to have to re-enter everything from this last year (preferably!)

I'm looking at project management and bug/suggestion tracking systems too at the moment - currently looking at www.unfuddle.com which looks nice and has an API too...

Continuing my thinking, I guess it all depends on how far you want to push the scope of FreeAgent... I could see a use for being able to give client access to a quote system so they could see outstanding quotes, the status of each quote and potentially add comments etc I guess then you're almost becoming an issue/quote/bug tracking system too which I understand is completely off your core focus and would only apply to a number of your customers (the IT developer-type customer) but could still be worth thinking about?!?
I guess this is something that could be done when you release some kind of API, but it would depend on what level of data you let us get at :)

Sounds good... I guess in an ideal world (and think I may have mentioned this before), I would be able to keep track of all quotes i've made to clients, mark them when approved/completed and then invoice them at the end of the month or at a specified time. I'm thinking primarily of those clients of mine whereby they get me to quote on each bit of work e.g. update contact form on a website, add a new (small) feature. I wouldn't want each of these to end up on a separate invoice...
Actually, what would also be good would be to also merge a number of these quotes into an email I can send to the client...

Just thought of a really geeky addition to the whole mileage area that you could add - probably right at the bottom of the Roadt Map... but I think it could be pretty useful for people
How about integrating in with Google Maps, Maps24, Live Maps or one of the other mapping APIs to allow you to get the mileage from their route directions - I'm cr*p at taking down the mileage from my car and tend to take all my mileages straight off Google etc and this would save me jumping between websites (very lazy i know!)
I could see it working like this:
- You select new mileage claim
- You have the option of entering a mileage or have a calculate button
- You then enter the start and end location (and maybe optional via's)
- Free Agent then goes off to Google and calculates the mileage (you could even show a little Google map of the route just to make sure that the right locations have been selected and/or to drag to change the route if a slightly different route had been taken).
- Then with a single click, you could import that route and fill in the fields in FreeAgent automatically.
What does everybody think? I'm mad I know!-
