IDEA: An option to label or tag payments, invoices, etc enabling a profitability per projectIt would be great to have an option to label or tag payments, invoices, etc so I can generate a profitability per project view.
At the moment, I use 'rebilling' to mark invoices and payments to a project and leave the unbilled items, well, unbilled, so I can tally costs and do rough profitability calculations on projects, but it's clumsy (and obviously not what rebilling option was designed for).

Provided you are using the Approved Mileage Allowances Payments (AMAP) scheme there is no need to enter mileage on your P11D.
HMRC state:
We publish tax-free mileage rates known as Approved Mileage Allowance Payments (AMAPs) for employees who use their own cars for business travel. If your mileage payments are equal to or below these rates there will be no tax or NICs due so there will be no need to report this information to us ..........
Any amounts that you pay over the published AMAPs are taxable and must be entered on the P11D.

The mileage is based on the HMRC's tax year - it's all about what you can pay yourself without incurring extra income tax liabilities.
So it runs 6 Apr 06 - 5 Apr 07.
You should see late on in calendar year 2006 where the mileage switches from one rate to the other (in fact you may well have a claim that is partly 40p and partly 25p).
We really ought to provide some kind of summary of what's been paid in each tax year - quite apart from anything else it's needed for the annual P11D form.
We've been thinking some more about this kind of thing here, and we may well be moving towards a My Money tab which encompasses out-of-pocket expenses, income tax, dividends, P11D expense reports etc.

Mileage only logging £0.25 per mile?I'm adding last year's (2007) mileage (I know...hey 2008's is up to date :-) and the weird thing is, FreeAgent is logging only 0.25 for each mile, rather than 40p...
I've only got up to 1,500 miles for 2007 so far, so I've clearly not hit the 10,000 limit.
Is this a bug?

I'm sure HMRC think every taxpayer is special. The only problem is they don't show it! – Stuart Jones, on August 14, 2008 19:58

@Ed; I really like the Companies House deadline addition. Not so much for the deadline (which are not hard to commit to memory), but because FreeAgent is moving slowly and steadily towards becoming a true total "one stop" shop for contractors and small service-orientated businesses. I'm looking forward to seeing what you're going to do next (and fingers crossed for the improvement to expenses :P) – Mike Wilson, on August 11, 2008 14:16

That would work (so it works in a similar way to how multiple invoices can be reconciled against a 'master' payment).
This invoice type of ''credit/carried forward from other invoice' is something you'd create in the system, right?
I suppose another option would be that an invoice that has been allocated the full funds would be marked as 'paid', and excess monies sits in the account with the ability to explain the payment as 'other cash'?
