A comment on the problem "Your Rejaw integration shouldn't require email address" in Ping.fm:
I have an OpenID based account, and no password, or ability to use a password, so I can't add Rejaw to my services on Ping.fm This is similar to the problem with other OpenID supporting services, except that in this case Rejaw doesn't provide the ability to add a password as a work around, as was done with other services – aldon Hynes, on August 15, 2008 21:57-

aldon Hynes replied on August 06, 2008 09:08 to the problem "Auto migration Tag-Channel Weirdness" in Mento:
I'm with Jan. I don't want categories. I want to use Mento as a better bookmarking (with tagging) system.
In addition, it appears as if you can no longer add tags when you try to bookmark from the tool bar. I don't know if you can still add tags other ways.
Until I can use tags the way tags are designed to be used, I'm going to have to stop using Mento and go back to the greasemonkey scripts I used in the past-

aldon Hynes replied on August 06, 2008 09:04 to the problem "No Screenshots, No predefaulted Tags, just bring back the old Mento" in Mento:
Now that I've explored the new functionality a little more, and seen what Mento appears to be doing, I no longer think my problem is addressed. Instead, it appears as if what has happened is that tagging is no longer supported by Mento. I can add predefined categories, like Media or Politics, but if I want to use my own tags (which is CRUCIAL to my use of any bookmarking site), I'm out of luck.
e.g. Recently I tagged a page whiteboard and collaboration These tags are very important to me. They get passed to other sites, like del.icio.us and ma.gnolia
Now, I can't send tags!

aldon Hynes reported a problem in Mento on August 05, 2008 19:20:
No Screenshots, No predefaulted Tags, just bring back the old MentoThe New Mento toolbar does not appear to allow me to easily submit a bookmark without a Screenshot. I don't want to provide a screenshot. The other option apparently is to submit it to a predefined tag, but I don't want any of the predefined tags. Can we make it work like the old toolbar?-

Let me take a slightly different view on this as I described in my article Crossing the Chasm without Jumping the Shark

Based on Shirky's comments about moderation and the issues of moving from a community of early adopters to the early majority, I think it puts the issue into a broader context that should be helpful for Twitter and other companies that are bound to face this issue.
A comment on the problem "Twitter refuses to uphold Terms of Service" in Twitter:
Twitter is more than just a communications utility. It is a community. It is a community that feels it has no recourse to due process. Unless Twitter the company addresses this, other people will, either by the community moving or by regulators moving in.
I'm at the Computers, Freedom and Privacy conference right now, were we've been exploring these issues. Stop by and read my post about it at
