Hi Tara - sorry you ran into a problem.
We're very busy making uploads faster and smoother. Can you provide information on the dataset you were trying to upload? How many rows of data, and was it being geocoded?
You can send us a copy of your data to support@geocommons.com and we can give it a try.
Thanks!

Andrew Turner replied on December 21, 2009 13:57 to the question "Maker embedding: zoom to location?" in GeoCommons:
Hey Paul - excellent question. There is a full JavaScript API to the embedded map. However currently it's not exposed very well. You have to get the Flash object from the instances array.
So for example, if you embedded the map in the 'maker_map_10024' div, then the call to set the zoom is:
F1.Maker.Map.instances['maker_map_10024'].swf.setZoom(11);
There is a full list of JS methods: http://wiki.github.com/geocommons/api...
The interface will be much better in the very next release, so don't fret! :)

By the way - here are some of the re-uploaded working versions:

so we need to check out the parsing of the original datasets to see if the issue is resolved.
Thanks!

Hey plarkin! sorry for the late response.
We're actually finishing up some new features specific to polyline visualization that will make this better.
However, just talked with Kevin and apparently downloading and re-uploading your dataset seems to work. Can you send us the original dataset to support@fortiusone.com so that we can try it out here to see what the original parsing problem is?

A comment on the question "Why can't my lat/lon data be mapped?" in GeoCommons:
Good point about adding it to the documentation (and Bill is fast at work updating all of our videos. he's a rock star like that :)
The reason we don't grey it out is that people can still upload data and keep it private, which is why the "Make a Map" button isn't visible. – Andrew Turner, on November 05, 2009 12:39

Hi Stephanie - thanks for the feedback.
Perhaps you can clarify about how your choosing the "Share link"? Is the data you're trying map data that you uploaded, or did you "Edit a Copy"?
Currently, you can't map overlay copies, just the original ones. But if it's data you uploaded you should definitely be able to Share it.
Andrew Turner replied on November 03, 2009 11:19 to the problem "Sign up link for new users is going directly to the Sign In page instead" in GeoCommons:
Hi Stephanie - you're right, looks like there is a problem with the /register location. Typically Sign Up is via a pop-up box, but it sounds like instead you're getting sent to the login page.
One thing to try while we fix this problem is to wait until the page entirely loads, so wait 20 seconds the first time. (the Javascript has to finish loading).
We'll get this issue fixed quickly.

Hi!
I assume you mean the Share icon button in Map Edit mode? This panel is actually going away (confusing for many users as well). Instead, save the map, then in the Map view page click on "Details" and you get the embed and links you can use to share the map.
Curiously, would you also like to have a "Share" that provides links to Reddit, Delicious, etc? (kind of like the 'Add this' buttons?)
