Jeff: What version of Songbird are you using, and what add-ons do you have installed? Can you tell us which websites you're browsing to that trigger this behavior? I'm hoping that we can narrow it down to a rogue add-on or to a strange interaction with a website.

If you're on Firefox with Adblock Plus enabled, the rule that's blocking tags.gawker.com/assets is causing the comments block to not load. To fix it:

1. Open the blockable items panel
2. rRght-click on one of the blocked (red) items that contains tags.gawker.com/assets
3. Select "Add an exception rule for this item."

The exception rule you want is this one:

http://tags.gawker.com/assets/*

Reload the page when you're done, and voila! Comments.

This must be an add-on that you have; I'm pretty sure Songbird doesn't have this functionality. I just tested playback on Vista Home Premium to make sure nothing magic snuck into the product when I wasn't looking.

Check your add-ons and feathers for non-default stuff, then disable them and restart until you find the culprit.

Is your collection on a local drive or on a remotely-mounted drive? What happens if you copy a new song into your watched folder? Does Songbird find that song and import it?

We haven't tested against 10.4.9 for quite some time; we do check 10.4.11. That may or may not have something to do with your problem. One thing you can do is right-click (or control-click) on one of the files in your library that gets skipped and choose "Show File". Does the file exist? Another thing to check is the Error Console, which you'll find under the Tools menu. Do you see any errors printed when it skips a track? – Ali Rayl, on June 22, 2009 23:36

Everyone is seeing this problem on all platforms; I suspect it's a change that Last.fm made to their radio service, since we haven't changed any of that code in a while and it's been working great for months. :( We'll look into it and see what we can do.
