John asked a question in Plurk on October 09, 2009 17:29:
Private Plurk Not ReceivedA friend sent a Private Plurk to her friends which I did not receive.
I know this, because another friend who shares a house with me also has the same friend. The house friend told me about her private message. I wrote to her on the PP, using my friend's account. She replied, sending me the url of the PP, asking me to open my account and paste it in using that.
When I did so, I received a message saying I did not have permission to view the Plurk, as it is only viewable to her friends.
She is on my friend's list, and she is on mine.
When she sends me a one-to-one PP, I receive it.

Thanks you.
Since my question it's gone up by 0.02.
Formerly it was on 81.28; this was reduced to 80.28 due to a karma freeze necessitated by 3 days' absence.
My point is that the notice said it has raised since last karma update, whereas it had remained fixed.
Would appreciate any feedback you may divulge.

Karma remains at 81.09 despite activityHello
Despite plurking, and getting responses, karma has not shifted.
It remains fixed on 81.09 and says it is +0.04.
Can it please be unblocked?

John replied on February 21, 2009 16:14 to the question "How to install MoneyDance on Ubuntu these days" in The Infinite Kind:
I was stuck the same.
I'm not completely sure how, but I did, and for the record most of the steps are here:
1) In the synaptic package manager I typed "jre" into the search box. Several applications with the orange ubuntu logo appeared. I ticked the box on the one which said, "default-jre", ticking "mark for installation"; when I did that, several other java applications were selected. Go "apply" and let it download and install.
2) Next I went to http://moneydance.com/other and installed the file
"tar xzf moneydance_linux_x86wj.tar.gz" (that's the one with java). I copied that into my home folder and extracted it, where it made a "Moneydance" folder (make sure that folder has another folder called jre" in it - it should have).
After that I right-clicked in the top bar and made a custom application and pointed it to the folder and selected the MoneyDance file with a blue diamond by it.
Closed all that, then by single-clicking on the new application icon in the top bar, the program opened and it works. You can change the little icon to anything you want. I selected a pound sign, ( £ ), made from an icon I found on the net.
This might help, as it was by someone who two hours ago was totally confused.

MoneyDance has lost its sound!I am suddenly finding that I have lost the sound in MoneyDance - I like to hear the cash register pinging when I click enter. I expect there's a wiki or some link as to what to do here, but I am currently on a limited connection.
I using it on Ubuntu Hardy and had no problems until the other night.
John replied on December 01, 2008 13:02 to the praise "Can a Report Generate Entries, Instead of Graphs" in The Infinite Kind:
Hello again:
Now that the last month has completed, there are some entries for me to look at.
I see my stumbling block was that I had selected "Income and Expenses" where I should have specified "Detailed Income and Expenses", in other words exactly as you said! ;)
Now everything is clear and I have a full report.
Thanks for your help,
Regards
John
PS: I see that if you go Tools>edit categries, then browse to a category and double-click, you will get a list of all the transactions; actually you will get the category account, it will appear as an account: which is what it really is. Another account.
It would be rather nice if we could see our categories listed under "View",
rather than having to select "edit" to view the list.

Thank you for taking the trouble to post a screen-shot to see.
I think the situation I have is down to 2 factors, namely:
1) I haven't been using the program for long, so there are not many entries ;)
2) We are a group of three guys who go shopping together and we tend to lump all our purchases together in say, WaitRose; this is entered as a single transaction which is then split off depending on who had what. As the main operator I've made a "credit card account" with the two of them.
So regarding categories I have
Food:Food (general food)
Food: Special (my food)
Anything which isn't 'me' is charged to Rajah or to Barney Accounts.
This may help explain why I'm seeing a different type of picture to you.
I'm grateful for the advice you gave as it seemed to have helped me (mostly) in understanding why I see what I am seeing ! :-)
Kind regards
John

Can a Report Generate Entries, Instead of GraphsCan I generate a report where I can see entries and figures rather than graphs and diagram?
I'd like to be able to see, say "Food" listed by the entries relating to it.
Have been using the program for about a week, and so far I like it a lot
John asked a question in The Infinite Kind on November 16, 2008 13:34:
Why the Blank Sheet when I try to make a New Account?I often get a blank plate when I try to make a new account (or new category)
It happens on my main pc but not the laptop; both use Ubuntu Linux.
On the laptop it sometimes looks as though something is "struggling" to draw up the date; but then the words of the plate arrive filled up. On the desktop machine, I often get the blank plate, and have to try again, often several times, before I am presented with the account (or category) form I need to fill in to achieve my aim.

Indeed, danio. I don't think there is! You'd have thought someone would have done it by now, but there's always a first time, I guess. ;) – John, on November 06, 2008 19:22
John replied on November 06, 2008 13:36 to the question "Why arent my reminders working?" in The Infinite Kind:
Did you put something in (a) the description box and/or (b) the memo box? Did you put something in the "last date" box?
As far as I can see, you can't ask it to set a reminder on "every two weeks".
Every second week is not the same.
If you want it to do it every two weeks, you could selected "daily" and put "14" in the "days" box. I set up one like that - let's see what it will do ;)
A comment on the question "How to Make A Cash Account?" in The Infinite Kind:
Thank you.
To refine, my question, I mean an account which knows it's cash.
So if it had say, ten pounds in it and I went to withdraw fifteen, it would say something like "Cash Account - Cannot Overdraw".
Cash is a different type of asset.
Just a thought.
