Brian Jepson replied on December 18, 2009 15:44 to the question "what have i done to make SEND disappear on my new Macbook?" in O'Reilly Media:
Julie,
Is the menu at the top of the screen visible? If you click the Message menu at the top of the screen, you should see a Send option. If it is grayed out, then something is missing from the message (such as the recipient address).
If it is not grayed out, try clicking the menu option, but take note of the menu shortcut listed to the right of it. The attached screenshot shows what it looks like on my computer.

If you don't see the Send button on the toolbar, click the View menu, choose Customize Toolbar, and then drag the default set of icons to the toolbar.

Stephen,
Very sorry about the problems you had with the book. The bars are part of the original plates that the Space Telescope Science Institute granted us permission to use in the book.
Regarding the quality of the images, Page 36 explains this a bit more, but we chose the image size, contrast, and print resolution in order to increase the utility of the book as a field observing guide.
That is, when viewed at night under a red astronomical flashlight, the images in the book look close to what you'd see in a decent-sized scope. We found that observers can be hindered by very high resolution images that do not resemble what they would see in their own observing equipment.

It is available; if you go to the link we listed in the book's preface, it will take you to http://www.makershed.com/ProductDetai... where you can find a link to the source code.
Here is the direct download link: http://cachefly.oreilly.com/make/eg/M...
You should also visit the author's site, where he posts updated samples and information: http://www.makingthingstalk.com/

Brian Jepson replied on June 25, 2008 14:51 to the question "I need help with Excel Hack #24" in O'Reilly Media:
I heard back from the authors. It appears that the confusion stems from the fact that the example code was split between two lines, giving rise to the appearance that there is a space between COUNT and IF. But this should be one word, COUNTIF.
If you remove the space, it should work. But just to be sure, the authors have posted an example spreadsheet you can look at here: http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/dependent...
Cheers,
Brian

GreggJensen,
I'm thinking late Summer or early Fall (August-September, basically). We're going to work on getting some chapters up into Rough Cuts (http://www.oreilly.com/roughcuts) in the next month or so.

Hi Bruce,
You can also find code examples linked off of the catalog page for most books, right under the cover image. See http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/wordhks/
You can go here to download a zipfile with the examples for this book: http://examples.oreilly.com/wordhks/

Thanks, Rich! Your opinions definitely did make a difference--it's helpful to know that there are eager readers. As far as a release date, we don't have an ETA yet, but I suspect it will be within the next 6 months. We will be doing a shortcut release before then: http://shortcuts.oreilly.com/
