"Paying for Code Folding when it was already available in other products (and we chose you) seems a little unfair to me."
Code Folding will not be the only feature added to the next major Coda update.
If the other new features are not worth it for you, and you think code folding should be "free", then that's certainly a purchase to consider carefully. (Of course, I think it will be worth it.)
To remind again: we've added tons of major new features to Coda — including source control, search and replace in files, custom books, clip groups, plug-ins, etc. — without charging a single cent. Just not that one feature you wanted. (Sorry.)
So, unless anybody shows up here with a delicious chili recipe (I'm incredibly hungry) to share with the group, I think I've said all I can for now! – Cabel Sasser, on August 25, 2009 08:58

Sadly, developing/scheduling software and determining pricing is not, in fact, very easy. :)
But let me re-cap what I've said in this thread, as clearly as possible.
1. Yes, Code Folding will be added to a major Coda update.
2. Yes, major Coda updates will have an upgrade fee. But since it's early still, and we haven't done an upgrade for Coda yet, pricing has not been determined, and probably will be, like, two days before release. We will make it reasonable.
3. No, there is no release date. Sorry. Really! We're working hard. We have many things to do and only so many people to do them. It's the small-company-with-multiple-major-apps blues. Right now I'd say: 2010! Yeah, not helpful. Tell you what: when we hit beta, I'll try to post an update here.
Hope this helps you get satisfaction! (See what I did there? It's also the name of this website.) – Cabel Sasser, on August 25, 2009 08:43

Yes, the next major Coda release will be a paid upgrade.
It's already been 2+ years since we released Coda 1.0. But I do hope you have enjoyed the tons of free enhancements we've added to Coda along the way. Both 1.5 and 1.6 were significant updates. – Cabel Sasser, on August 12, 2009 14:29

Indeed, our friends at TheCodingMonkeys have added code folding to the core engine used by SubEthaEdit and Coda. It's something we've been waiting for, and something we talked to them much about.
THAT BEING SAID: there are still a lot of OTHER things we want to add to Coda for the next release, so please note that it will still take some time before this will make its way into Coda proper.
But I hope it might bring some solace to note that the code folding work is essentially complete! :)

I'm just being goofy. What I mean is, as a small developer, it sometimes takes a lot of time to do things. We're getting better about it but aren't quite there yet. So, literally the only way we can survive with our sanity intact, is if people are patient and understanding of the process. Thanks so much. :) – Cabel Sasser, on June 18, 2009 16:38

As I wrote above: "Code folding is a massive change that requires major modifications to the text engine in Coda. We'll get there, but it'll take time. Your patience is appreciated. And by appreciated, I mean required."
What more can I say? :) We definitely know code folding is important, and combined with other things we'd like to add to future update(s), it'll take time, certainly more than the three months from when I last posted.
Thanks for your interest and (hopefully) continued patience. In the meantime, I highly recommend using the Code Navigator to skip around your large files. – Cabel Sasser, on June 17, 2009 16:08

The guys are at WWDC so we haven't had time to test deeply, but at first glance we were hopeful it was actually fixed in Safari 4 Final.
Is it still happening for you after installing Safari 4 Final? What are the specific symptoms?
(UPDATE: Wade mentions that he talked to some of the WebKit guys at WWDC, and this bug may have actually been fixed in Safari 4 Final. Are you still seeing it?) – Cabel Sasser, on June 10, 2009 08:00

Coda definitely does support UTF-8...
Can you give me a little more explanation on what you saw that made you think Coda doesn't? Do you have a file that's not loading properly that you can maybe send to us?
If Coda's auto-detection of encoding didn't work, did you try choosing "Text > Encoding > Unicode (UTF-8)" from the menu?
