Carnager shared an idea in Brightkite on May 24, 2009 05:47:
Behaviour of uploaded geotagged picturesIt would be nice if uploaded pictures that contain geographical data in their exif would be treated different on brightkite:
- When a picture is taken within 300 meters of your checkin point, the placemark should state the place you checked in to. The photo should however be mapped using the geographical location in the exif data. The photo should be exported to flickr using it's own geographical data in the exif.
- When a picture is taken over 300 meters away from your checkin location, it should carry a placemark resembling the geographic data in the exif. It should completely overrule the location you're checked in to at the time.
(These could be pictues taken while you're on the move and don't feel like checking in to that specific piece of motorway or trainrail first, lol..)
This would replace the current handling of pictures which, regardless of them containing geographic data, get slapped on the checkin-location of brightkite, also when the picture is exported to flickr, , leading to generic spots on your brightkite- and flickr-map, when this could be more detailed..
The way brightkite handles geotagged photos should change for both website uploads as for e-mailed photos..
Thanks :)

As this topic dates from half a year ago, and now I too got an Android phone, I was wondering what's the status of the app nearing completion?
Currently using the i.brightkite.com site (home-button is too tiny, though) but I would like to get the update notifications to replace what I used SMS notifications for back in the days: up-to-date info without having to check on the site every minute or so..
Thanks for your insight!-

A solution could be to e-mail the pictures instead of uploading them through the web-interface..
There are just three catches:
- you can only upload to the place you're currently checked in to...
- your e-mails cannot exceed about 20MB and/or 5 pictures
- ordering of the pictures within one mail may be randomized when they arrive at flickr.
This way you can send out several mails up front while your computer keeps sending them in the background...
It takes a minute or two for the pictures to show in your stream, time gets longer depending on size of the e-mail.

I have the same request. As I have my eeepc (with built in webcam and mike) with me most of the time, this would be a nice device to do some live broadcasting from and the service I'd like to use is QIK. Besides, I don't think it's a hard thing to make, compared to introducing support for eg another cellphone. So please consider it.. Thanks!
Carnager replied on March 08, 2009 01:30 to the question "Poken read-only?" in Poken:
I think it would be a great idea to incorporate some writable memory in the Poken! With the amount of space vs the price per GB these days, I think it would be rather easy to fit a module of 512MB or 1GB within the current Poken unit. As the 3 files need to stay read-only, you could just add the virtual drive as current pokens have it for those 3 files, and have the writable memory user configurable, regardless what OS they use.. So inserting the Poken would introduce 2 individual drives at once to the host PC... :) Now people are lugging around a USB stick -and- a Poken, this should be reduced to one device where possible, imo.. :)
Carnager asked a question in Starbucks on March 07, 2009 09:08:
When are more Starbucks opening in The Netherlands?Currently there are only 3 Starbucks at Schiphol Airport (of which 2 available to people who aren't planning to take a plane on their visit) and there are plans to open up a Starbucks at Amsterdam Central Station. Yet, from what I've seen abroad, Starbucks are very common in towns and have multiple stores in cities, up to tens of them in the large cities.
My question therefore is, when will Starbucks -finally- start opening stores in cities?
There are many people who encourage Starbucks to come to their town/city with one or more (preferably more) stores. eg, just look at the Starbucks 'hyve' on the Dutch social network Hyves:
http://starbucks3.hyves.nl/
With over 40.000 members on the Starbucks 'hyve', this is just one of the online spots people come to talk about Starbucks and how much they want it everywhere in The Netherlands!
So, Starbucks, hear this call from The Netherlands:
WE WANT YOU!
Carnager replied on March 07, 2009 03:43 to the idea "Poken website could be more intuitive" in Poken:
When you have pokened somebody you'll see the small cards in your friends page by default, not the large ones.. Only when you hover a small card, the big one pops out. I think this is to keep your friendslist managable once you gathered more contacts through poken.
Of course, you should be able to edit both the small and the large card, as you have to decide for which information is important enough to show on the small card, and which information only need to be shown on the large card.

Carnager replied on March 07, 2009 03:37 to the problem "no autolaunch website after Poken insert" in Poken:
It should auto-start if you have autorun enabled on your system...
Perhaps you got that turned off, eg for your cd/dvd drive... This setting may cause general disfunction of the autorun execution.
Another option might be, you chose some default action for when you insert *any* usb drive into your computer, e.g. the 'do nothing' option.
Just brainstorming here for a bit.. :)

Carnager replied on February 26, 2009 19:17 to the problem "cannot link my poken to my account" in Poken:
I found out a similar problem. When running Start_Poken.html without being logged in, it won't register to your account and/or show new friends.
When removing the poken from the USB port, waiting 5 seconds and reconnecting it, then clicking Start_Poken.html again, then it suddenly does work.
Tested this with 3 different pokens on 2 windows XP and 1 windows Vista system and it appears to be a general problem... Didn't pay too much attention to it though, as it's easily fixed, but seeing this I thought to add this experience to the knowledge-base :)
