Very excited to see someone working on a brightkite app...! Would love to stop using the little app I've been using that passes current coords off to a Brightkite search. Would love to help test if possible and will fire a mail off when I get home :-)

An example from me would be I search for (in the search bar at mobile website/regular old website) "N 47 30.240 W 122 03.524".

That would put me on the map at that location and I could check in. No longer can from regular website/mobile website (and OP seems unable from SMS/email).

The website now returns a 'Sorry, we couldn't find any places matching your query.' message :(

I discovered this didn't work today either. This is by far my favorite feature of brightkite as I hike/geocache a lot and like to check in and post from locations sometimes miles from a physical address. Its worked great in the past and *really* hope it comes back!

Sure, it can get downright ugly, but I would *love* to see a TOPO overlay added to the Google Maps (such as done at http://mapper.acme.com/ and a few other places where its toggled like Map, Sat, Hybrid, Terrain, etc).

It's great fun to see where my friends are posting from, but some of us like to post from more wildernessy (?) spots and it would be downright super groovy to see them (ok, I admit it, and myself) on a TOPO map. Elevation is important stuff :-)

I didn't see that, but this is along the lines of what I was looking for!

It doesn't look like it places markers at the locations though and doesn't look like it's available for an individual's locations... just seeing the links on group feeds like on 'Me & My Friends' and 'Around Me'. Very cool stuff though!

It would be cool if brightkite could generate a kml for Google Earth or even just a map that showed all the locations someone has posted from. Even cooler if it were a kml that could take one on a tour from location to location.
