Can't locate softwareWhen I type "orangenote" or any part thereof I do not see my software OrangeNote listed in the search results in either the vendor claim search or the user software search.
However, visiting wakoopa.com/software/orangenote shows that it is there.

Well the information is all there, so really you just need an intuitive way to filter it, as you say. My suggestion is to have links or buttons at the top of the list that give you quick access to filters like "my posts", "my topics", etc., and to also make the "4" in "you've started 4 topics" a link as well, that performs an appropriate filter.

Redesign the dashboardI'm finding certain aspects of the site very difficult to figure out. For example, I want to see all the posts/ideas I've shared in the past. If I go to my profile, it says "You've started 4 topics", but doesn't allow me to see what they are!

Yeah, there's always some little catch, eh? Also, not every developer will necessarily have their own domain or even web site. – A. Logan Murray, on December 10, 2008 22:29

I'm curious about that too. I certainly wouldn't want other people claiming my programs; but on the other hand don't want it to be overly difficult to claim programs that are mine.
Perhaps you could allow the developer to post some file to their web server that would indicate the username of the Wakoopa account that is "attached" to the app. Presumably only the company would be able to add files to their domain. – A. Logan Murray, on December 10, 2008 21:19

Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking. Alerts are very non-intrusive. – A. Logan Murray, on December 10, 2008 20:05

Or simply design it in such a way as to be non-intrusive, so we can see that an update is available, but not have it pop up something annoyingly every time we turn on our machine. ;)
I'm sure you guys will do a good job with that, though, and am excited to see what you come up with! – A. Logan Murray, on December 10, 2008 16:53

Excellent! Sounds great and I'm excited to be able to "claim" apps that I've written. – A. Logan Murray, on December 10, 2008 16:43

I agree a more wiki-style approach is ideal, but with some safeguards. Also files are never actually uploaded to Wakoopa--they're just linked-to. – A. Logan Murray, on November 30, 2008 14:54

If you want to involve developers, perhaps you should investigate PAD files, and allow a pad file url to be associated with a program. Pad files are kind of like a developer-published rss feed for software (shareware mainly) that would indicate the latest version as given by the developer.
Make it optional of course, or if u really wanted to be adventurous you could come up with your own specification that developers could host... just some thoughts. – A. Logan Murray, on November 29, 2008 13:57

A. Logan Murray replied on November 28, 2008 03:24 to the idea "Improve the widget" in Wakoopa:
Personally I think the developer widget needs major improvement (I feel I've commented on this before). At least I would like to see the program icon and name incorporated into the widget rather than just the Wakoopa icon and the users/hours. Maybe even show some thumbnails of the most common users of the app beneath it like on the product page.
Also, I like how they are rendered as images--this makes it easy to include in software (like WordPress) that doesn't like external applets, so be sure to keep that ability if you do introduce fancier flash-based widgets.

More prominent placement of screenshotsI do think screenshots need a more prominent placement on software pages. Often this is the first thing a user will want to see if they've never used a program before and want to see what it's about.
From a developer/producer's perspective I want potential users to see what it's about right away (even before reading a description).
I noticed another user suggested an applet to flip through screenshots... this sort of thing could be incorporated right above the app description (not too huge, just enough to see them and flip through them, and click to zoom).
At the VERY least I think you could move them up in the sidebar to directly under the Download button.

You should also take into consideration that developers (like myself) will run test builds of software before it's officially released, which could lead to confusion if an update is announced that isn't actually available.
I would suggest that the product description would have to be updated with the new version info before it be announced. – A. Logan Murray, on November 25, 2008 22:52

I agree with both Gosay and Saxtus--if adding update notifications to the tracker would bulk it up then I say no, however Saxtus makes a good point that the update notification need not involve any changes to the tracker at all--it could be handled entirely on the server end (it already knows what apps we're running and what the latest versions are); all it need do is push out an alert that is picked up by the tracker saying "A new version of xxx may be available" or something. – chaiguy1337, on November 13, 2008 22:48
