Chris Vance replied on September 03, 2009 04:32 to the question "Is auto fill available with Flock?" in Flock:
I'm not sure I understand your question... Are you expecting to go to a web site like Google or Yahoo, start to type in your username, and have your username appear in a small dropdown? This works in Flock 2.5.2 on WinXP for me.
If this is what you are looking for, can you please try the following:
1. Start Flock in safe mode (instructions)
2. Try a textbox you've typed in previously.
Browser extensions are disabled when you start in safe mode. If autofill is now working, one of your extensions is giving you problems.
Or are you looking for an extension which adds additional functionality, such as Sxipper that Nikgare mentioned? Many Firefox extensions work in Flock.
By all means use the browser that works for you. With a bit more detail, folks around here might be able to help you stay with Flock.
Chris Vance replied on August 31, 2009 01:49 to the question "Slow loading and sudden shut downs" in Flock:
Some people install browser extensions which add functionality to the browser. For instance, I use ForecastFox (http://forecastfox.mozdev.org/) in Firefox for weather conditions and forecast information. Go to the Tools menu, Add-ons, to see any installed extensions.
Sometimes extensions can cause weird behavior, such as not being able to load pages, or random crashes. When you run the browser in safe mode, extensions are disabled. Perhaps I should have mentioned this in my first reply.
Can you answer a few questions?
1. What OS are you using?
2. Do you keep a lot of Favorites?
3. Do you use the News Reader in Flock? If you do, about how many subscriptions/feeds are you subscribed to?
Chris Vance replied on August 30, 2009 18:58 to the question "Slow loading and sudden shut downs" in Flock:
I am guessing you are running Windows? Please follow these steps to run Flock in safe mode:
1. Open the Start menu
2. Click Run
3. Type "flock.exe -safe-mode" without the quotations
4. Click ok
5. If you get a small box with some checkboxes, click "Continue in Safe Mode"
Does Flock load? Sorry that it's five steps. :-)
Chris Vance replied on August 30, 2009 18:40 to the question "Downloading images causes Flock to crash, why?" in Flock:
First off, try disabling your extensions -- go to Tools, Addons, click each addon, Disable. Still any problems? I was able to download the logo from google.com with Flock 2.5.2 on WinXP SP3 without problems.
If you still have problems, do you get the "Save Image" dialog box before things crash? When you download stuff other than images, do you get the Downloads window when downloading a file? Does this appear when downloading an image? Do you have an antivirus program that scans incoming downloads? AVG Antivirus scans my incoming downloads on my computer.

No problems with that URL here. If you have any extensions, disable them (from Tools->Addons). – Chris Vance, on August 29, 2009 05:26
Chris Vance replied on August 25, 2009 05:27 to the problem "Prevent Flock from stealing focus" in Flock:
Firefox is my default browser (:boggle:). On WinXP, with Firefox minimized, double-clicking an HTML web page saved to my desktop causes FF to reappear and load the saved web page.
The app flashing in the bar makes sense for JavaScript asking for input on a web page, perhaps. In what application are you clicking a hyperlink? Is the hyperlink then loading a new web page in Flock?

Chris Vance replied on August 18, 2009 05:44 to the question "Why won't People sidebar load past the "get started" page?" in Flock:
The easiest thing to do is to log out of the site (Twitter, FB, etc) and then log back in.
If still having problems, can you see any bookmarks you saved in Flock? If you used to use the Bookmarks Toolbar (normally found under the address bar), are your bookmarks there?
Since you get the Getting Started page, did you just update Flock recently? What version did you have before? In the Twitter sidebar, did the old version keep a running count of remaining characters? That would be version 2.5.
You could also try these steps:
1. Find your profile
2. Find the file flock-data.sqlite
3. Rename it flock-backup-data.sqlite
4. Restart Flock

Chris Vance replied on August 10, 2009 06:36 to the idea "3 features to make Flock better for Twitter." in Flock:
David,
Flock 2.5 has URL expansion when hovering over short URLs in the People sidebar and in the My World screen. Just hover over a URL and look down at the status bar. It doesn't expand the URL when hovering over the link when visiting the actual twitter site, however.
You should be able to use Greasemonkey in Flock, right? It won't add functionality into the sidebar, but you can still benefit from your GM scripts on the sites themselves.
A comment on the question "Why is Flock crashing all of a sudden?" in Flock:
Dan, correct, the Flock profile folder is located (in Win XP) in the "Application Data" folder. Find the location here: http://www.flock.com/faq/show/64#q_387 – Chris Vance, on August 10, 2009 06:31
Chris Vance replied on August 09, 2009 08:05 to the problem "Download - Remaining Time" in Flock:
I would imagine that the download code is from Firefox and remains untouched by Flock staff. The download time is affected by the amount of data which still needs to be downloaded, as well as how fast the data is being downloaded. It's just an approximation, not a guarantee, and might increase or decrease depending upon various factors (Internet activity from other computers connected to your network, for instance).
Re: 1 minute and 60 seconds both being used... Maybe the browser will always show "1 minute" when they mean anything between 61 and 120 seconds, and 60 seconds when 60 seconds remain? Just guessing here. At the end of the day, does it really matter? Flock is telling you that in approximately 60 seconds, your download should be complete.
A comment on the problem "File corrupt message" in Flock:
From your initial message it looks like you've downloaded it more than once and gotten the corruption message. With any luck the file from the Flock servers is not corrupt, but something is happening when it gets to your computer. Can you try temporarily disabling your antivirus and firewall software before downloading? Turn off any download helpers or download accelerators if you have them installed.
If you still have problems, answer these questions: What is the file name when the download completes? Are you trying to install the US English version for Windows, or for a different language or OS? When you go to install Flock, a small "Extracting" dialog should appear, with a progress bar. The next screen asks you to choose Express Setup or Custom Setup. Do you get the dialog? Do you get to the next screen? – Chris Vance, on August 02, 2009 20:31
A comment on the problem "File corrupt message" in Flock:
Charley, can you please try the following:
http://www.firefoxfacts.com/2008/07/2...
Open Internet Explorer. Go to the Tools menu, Internet Options. Click the Security tab. With the Internet zone icon highlighted, click the Custom level. A list of security settings for the Internet zone will appear. A ways down the list, find the "Launching applications and unsafe files" setting (under Miscellaneous). Is this set to Deny? Set it to "Prompt (recommended)".
Can you download Flock after making this change?
If not, in Flock, go to Tools, Addons, select each extension, and click disable. Restart and try the download again. – Chris Vance, on August 01, 2009 06:50
A comment on the update "Facebook Login Issue - Solved" in Flock:
Can you please check a few of the suggestions on this page: http://getsatisfaction.com/flock/topi...
In particular, are other Flock services you use remaining logged in? Twitter, Picasa, etc.? Do you have problems with the Media Bar as described here: http://getsatisfaction.com/flock/topi...
Posting to that thread may get you more support for your issue. – Chris Vance, on July 25, 2009 19:11
Chris Vance replied on July 19, 2009 00:14 to the question "magicjack screwed Flock" in Flock:
I just tried downloading from the flock.com site as well, and found the site as a whole very slow. This may be a problem with the flock.com site or with some networks routing information from the site. I've let Evan know; hopefully the Flock folks can figure out the problem.
I've suggest trying to download Flock again in a day or two.
Chris Vance replied on July 18, 2009 07:16 to the problem "Updated FLOCK no longer loads !" in Flock:
GetSatisfaction.com, which Flock uses for this community support, doesn't display the entire link if it is too long. Cutting and pasting links from your email client may not work. Your best bet is to view this whole topic on the web page and click the links there. Cam's post with steps to download and install Flock 1.2.6 and then reinstall Flock 2.5 may fix things, depending upon your operating system.
Someone else has reported the exact same user32.dll error here: http://getsatisfaction.com/flock/topi...
Important question: Which version of Windows are you using?
A comment on the problem "How do you sort Favorites?" in Flock:
As you've discovered, you can sort bookmarks in the Organize Favorites dialog, but this sorting does not affect the order in your Favorites menu. This is a problem in Firefox as well. You can sort favorites within folders, however -- right-click on the folder name, then Sort by Name.
Please see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sorting_boo... for more information and extensions which might help (instructions related to Firefox 3 should work for Flock 2.0/2.5). – Chris Vance, on July 18, 2009 07:02
