Chris Metcalf replied on December 08, 2009 02:01 to the question "How many records can Socrata handle in a dataset?" in Socrata:
There is no hard architectural or software limit on how big a dataset can be, but there are limits to the storage and bandwidth usage quotas we allow for free accounts.
What data are you looking at publishing via Socrata? Perhaps I can be of some help.
Thanks,

Chris Metcalf replied on November 18, 2009 18:01 to the question "Are you guys ever going to add calculated columns?" in Socrata:
Dave -
Calculated columns is a feature that is on our backlog and that we are planning on implementing at some point. We're currently experimenting with a feature that will allow you to build simple queries, similar to SQL, and you'll be able to perform basic calculations as well as "mash up" data from multiple datasets.
What is your use case where you're looking to use Calculated Columns? I'm curious what you're trying to build and I'd like to take it into consideration with our plans.

A comment on the question "How do I edit my dataset?" in Socrata:
@weaselinks -
There's currently a limitation on number columns where you can only search for the entire value of a number cell, so you'd have had to type in the full IMEI number for the search results to work.
I went ahead and converted your IMEI column into a "Text" column, so searching within that column should work now.
Sorry for your troubles,

Alright, it looks like I can reproduce your issue. I'll have an engineer take a look at it and get back to you when we have a solution. Thanks for reporting it.

Chris Metcalf replied on November 12, 2009 02:23 to the question "upload data" in Socrata:
Koji -
Yes, you can use the "Append" feature to add new rows to an existing dataset. It's available in the dataset menu under "Data" -> "Upload More Rows" -> "Append From a File":

Append will allow you to upload a file with the same columns as your existing dataset, and have those rows added to the bottom of the dataset. The "Refresh" feature available to premium customers also allows you to replace all of the rows in a dataset.

You can add a new row to a dataset by clicking into the row labeled "new" at the bottom of the dataset. Unfortunately you cannot insert a new record into the middle of a dataset currently, although this is a feature we'll be working on soon.

Chris Metcalf replied on October 21, 2009 20:39 to the question "How to collaborate the dataset on embedded websites?" in Socrata:
cwytsang -
You can embed your dataset into a social networking site using our "Publishing" feature. In the "Publish" tab below your dataset, you can copy the HTML code necessary for you to then paste into the social networking site to embed your dataset.
We don't currently allow users to edit datasets when they're embedded in another page, but you can grant other Socrata users "collaborator" access to a dataset, which will allow them to update the data in your dataset, which will then be reflected in the embedded version.

If you follow the instructions in this WikiHow article to clear your web browser cache, and then refresh that page, do you still see no columns?:

Can you send me a link to the dataset you're trying to search in so that I can give this a try?
