Well it depend, if it has to create new metadata fields there is a compatibility problem I guess. But that's not how I see the things. For me, you would tag your song genre like this : "classical, soundtrack, movie, 80s" and that's how would the other mediaplayer see it but intelligent songbird would parse the string and see the four different genres as separate.
In fact I think it's just a regular panel filter view with a string parser to distinguish multiple genre separed with commas in a single field (well said like this it seems simple but I'm sure it's not that simple)

There already was this kind of discussion and I too think that music sorting and tagging needs to be the next big feature. But I think it should be rather the Tags on the files, that should be updated, rather then making it a media-player based thing. Interoperability is always a concern to me.
I don't want to spend hours of tagging my library, only to loose that information, when I switch players, or the code basis of songbird gets changed dramatically again and I have to start with a new profile.
No. For me, the gain would be less then the usage, if it would only be possible in the bird.-

Gravatar support would be great. I hate having to go to many sites to update the same resource... in this case, an avatar. Gravatar, Pavatar (like Gravatar, but hosted on one's own server), or any other service that would give me more control over resources that identify me would be beneficial to me.
A comment on the problem "Not all group tags are being recognized." in StatusNet Inc.:
Similarly, in the string "(!debian)", !debian doesn't get turned into a link. – Christopher Parker, on February 19, 2009 16:47

Not all group tags are being recognized.I just posted a dent to a few groups and only one of the group tags was turned into a link. When I visit the other two groups, my dent does not show up. I thought it was due to punctuation, however I noticed another dent with the same problem.
My dent: http://identi.ca/notice/2379893 (only !gnu is a link; !linux and !debian are not)
Other dent: http://identi.ca/notice/2345644 (!gnu is a link, but !linux is not, even though !linux is surrounded by spaces)
While typing this topic's description, someone responded to my dent. The response is also exhibiting the same issue: http://identi.ca/notice/2380008 (!debian is not a link, even though it is surrounded by spaces)
The !linux and !debian groups do exist, and I am a member of both of them, so it's not like that's the issue:
http://identi.ca/group/linux
http://identi.ca/group/debian
I show up at both http://identi.ca/group/debian/members and http://identi.ca/group/linux/members (search for cparker15)
Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Christopher Parker reported a problem in Consumers Union on January 23, 2009 22:36:
Fraudulent Billing PracticesMy wife subscribed to ConsumerReports.org two years ago. At the end of her subscription, she cancelled. However, even after cancellation, our credit card was charged for renewal. After being unable to get the fraudulent charge reversed, we eventually forgot about it.
Fast-forward a year. The expiration date for the credit card that was used to sign up for the subscription had changed. Yet somehow, another charge was put through for a subscription renewal.
After calling the number for ConsumerReports.org complaining that we have been fraudulently charged yet again, they claim the second charge will be reversed. How they managed to charge an expired card is beyond me. This time, we will be reporting ConsumerReports.org to our credit card company for fraudulent activity. We will also be issuing a chargeback if the charges haven't been reversed within the week.
I was able to find one other very similar horror story concerning fraudulent billing practices at ConsumerReports.org: http://www.planetfeedback.com/index.p...

The only thing keeping me from using Songbird is that I cannot add 2 folders to be watched. I have 80,000+ songs on 2 separate hard drives. In Winamp, I can simply add each folder to Winamp via preferences>media Library>local media>watch folders. Not possible yet in Songbird. If/when this happens, Songbird will have another user - me.
