Clayton replied on October 17, 2009 15:55 to the question "Please look after your British cousins!" in Flock:
Hi Chris,
The Mycroft project features many, many search engines for Flock and Firefox. I found the UK version of Ask at this location:
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engi...
When I clicked on the first link on this page, uk.ask.com was added to my list of available search engines inside Search Preferences... you should also be presented with the option of setting is as default upon installation.
Let me know if this doesn't work they way you hope...

Clayton replied on September 13, 2009 16:08 to the question "Can't get Flock to use Mail for email" in Flock:
Did you change the email setting in Preferences? In the Flock menu, go to Preferences... and then choose Advanced (far right along top). In the Advanced area, select the Sharing tab (far left). In the Webmail settings area, confirm that 'Use external email program' is selected.
Let me know if tis fixed the issue.

Clayton replied on August 09, 2009 16:24 to the question "No notes field for Delicious bookmarking?" in Flock:
Hi Damon,
You can add the description field to the favorites dropdown by changing a preference...
- type about:config in the address bar, hit enter
- acknowledge the warning that you will be careful
- in the filter box at the top, type description
- this should filter the list to show the preference you are looking for: flock.favorites.show.description
- double click the pref to set it to true
This will immediately add the description field back.
Please let me know if this doesn't work for you.

Spawn, try this:
First of all, make sure your Facebook account is not in the top part of the Accounts and Services sidebar. If it is, click Forget Account under your account name.
Then:
Go to Tools menu, and choose Options...
Choose Advanced, on the far right along the top.
Choose the Update tab inside the Advanced area, second from the right.
Click the Force Service Updates button. It should tell you what it is doing as it updates the services. Once it is done, restart the browser, and log into Facebook.
Working now?

Thank you for the thoughtful note!
I'll jump in with a few responses...
- we have added a tab preference that let's you change the behavior of clicks on the sidebars (and media bar). Go to Tools menu, Options (or if you are on a Mac: Flock menu, Preferences) and click the Tabs item, second from the right along the top. In the second section of the Tabs are, choose "a new tab" for clicks from within Flock's sidebars. (This is the first thing I change too :)
- we can't move the sidebar to the right, yet -- sorry.
- we have no skins -- sorry.
- almost all Firefox add-ons work in Flock, provided they work with Firefox 3.x. Go to addons.mozilla.org and choose what you like. Please note that extensions are known to effect performance and stability in Firefox and Flock, so use them sparingly to keep your performance levels high.
- if you have logged onto a webmail service (Gmail, Y! or AOL/AIM mail), Flock will use that account to send new emails. You can easily change this to use your external email program. Go to Tools menu, Options (or Flock menu, Preferences on Mac), and click Advanced, last one on the right along the top. In the Advanced area, choose the Sharing tab. Near the bottom, change the setting for "When sending email in Flock" to "use external email program". This will cause Flock to use whatever default email program is configured on your computer -- hopefully the program you mention is set this way on your computer, and it should work.
Let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks for trying Flock!

A comment on the question "flock and mac 10.3.9" in Flock:
2.0.2 was an auto-update, not a full release (so I can't give you a link to it). Try 2.0.3: http://archive.flock.com/releases/2.0...
Let me know if this doesn't work, we'll try something else. And you're right - it should not work! – Clayton, on July 12, 2009 16:24
Clayton replied on July 12, 2009 16:13 to the question "flock and mac 10.3.9" in Flock:
Hi Brian,
Flock 2.x will not work on 10.3.9. This version of Flock is based on Firefox 3.x, which dropped support of your Mac OS version.
Please accept our apologies and reinstall 1.2.6. http://archive.flock.com/releases/1.2...
We had tuned the auto-update to not hit 10.3.9 users, but clearly we messed up. Auto-updates are now turned off so you should not be upgraded automatically to 2.x again.
Sorry for the mix up! If I can help with anything else please let me know.
Clayton replied on July 11, 2009 18:52 to the idea "Addition of Twitpic and Tinyurl to Twitter interface." in Flock:
This may help:
Any URL you drag into Flock's tweet compose window will be shortened for you automatically when you hit post. You can either drag a URL in, or cut and paste it in. Even though you will be over 140 characters, the post will usually work and the URL will be shortened using the trim.li/nk service. If it doesn't work (hitting post does nothing), that is because even when the URL is shortened your post is still too long.
With this technique you can just drag the URL of the page you are on into the tweet compose window and tweet it. You can also drag media items from the media bar, feed titles from the feed reader, or any link on a page.
Let me know what you think.
Clayton replied on July 11, 2009 17:50 to the question "People sidebar won't log into Facebook" in Flock:
Hi Ben,
Please try this:
Open the Accounts and Services sidebar (the key icon above the sidebar area).
Find your Facebook account in the list in the top portion of the Accounts sidebar. Click Forget Account.
Now log back into Facebook -- did it work?
In case it didn't, try this second technique.
In the Tools menu, select options (or in the Flock menu, choose Preferences if you are using a Mac).
Click the Advanced tab at the far right along the top. Inside the Advanced tab, click the Update tab (second from the right inside the Advanced tab).
Locate the Force Service Updates button, and click it. It should tell you of its progress right there in the dialog box.
Once the Force Service Updates process is complete, close the Options dialog, log out of the Facebook page, Forget Account as mentioned above, then go and login to Facebook.
Any luck?
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Clayton replied on July 11, 2009 17:31 to the question "How do I remove email account from Flock list?" in Flock:
Hey Ry,
Please try this:
Open the Accounts and Services sidebar (the key icon above the sidebars).
Look for the account you want to remove in the upper portion of the sidebar.
There should be a "Forget Account" option under the account name you want to get rid of. Click Forget Account and acknowledge the waring, and the account is gone (until you sign back into it).

Your favorites are not gone! The way bookmarks are stored changed from Firefox 2.x to Firefox 3.x, and the migration isn't working with the auto-update we put out. If you install the old version you will see they are all there.
Here's a link, for Windows:
http://archive.flock.com/releases/1.2...
Shut down Flock and install the old version and you should be back in business. Please let me know if this doesn't work.

Your bookmarks are not lost. The just didn't get migrated to the new format Firefox uses for bookmarks. If you install the old version you will get them back.

We believe that Mac is unaffected -- if you are on Mac please let me know.
Install the older version and you will have your favorites back. We will not be turning on the auto-update to 2.5. We note than manually downloading and installing 2.5 from www.flock.com does not exhibit the same 'hidden favorites' issue as the auto-upgrade does.
You can see in this thread that folks who have performed the export bookmarks function form 1.2.x were then able to install 2.5 with no issues as well.
If anyone wants a more detailed explanation of what happened here you can contact me directly at clayton at flock dot com.
We are very sorry for the difficulties caused by this auto-upgrade.

We believe that Mac is unaffected -- all of these issues stem from Windows registry differences, making updates work across all versions obviously very challenging. If you are on Mac please let me know.
