We are still working on this problem. The problem is that the issue is happening with the providers we use to deliver SMS and not with the Twitter service itself. This makes it harder to resolve but we are on it.

We believe we have corrected this problem altho we still have to clean up the previous instances of the problem. So those of you seeing the problem previously will continue to do so, but there shouldn't be additional reports.

This is not the result of a hack. Rather there are some data inconsistencies in a few cases affecting how updates are stored between our multiple databases. This is not good and can produce some odd behavior.

We're working on it - if you are reporting this behavior please include your username as well as the specific post you have seen out of place.

For a profile picture there is a maximum size of 700k. For a background image there is a maximum size of 800k. Images must be formatted as JPG, GIF or PNG.

Images don't need to have certain dimensions. However, the profile picture will be cropped to square if the original is not. So I recommend uploading an image that is below 700k and also square.

If you are still having trouble, please attach the image you're trying to use and I'll check it out.

Hmm. Our public uptime report as monitored by Pingdom doesn't show any downtime today. I'm guessing you hit a whale page, but it wasn't a service-wide outage. Any errors are regrettable, but if you check out that page, you'll see that things have been getting steadily better.

More to do tho'.

Wacky. I don't know. Google doesn't hand edit the results and we don't allow customization of the meta tags. It's possible it was in his bio when the page was crawled.

There's another attempted fix for this going out for this soon. The problem has been a lot harder than it initially appeared.

Yes - we're making changes now. Similar to when we cleared caches before, this may result in you not being able to see the full timeline history until more updates come in. But you will be getting updates from more users, so it will fill up more quickly. – Jason Goldman, on August 05, 2008 19:29
