Darren replied on November 13, 2008 16:46 to the question "How do you set a meeting in RescueTime?" in RescueTime:
Well, you can use RescueIdleTime to determine when you have been idle and record what you were doing. This is a simple application to record what you were doing while you are away from the computer.
More on this topic can be found at http://getsatisfaction.com/rescuetime...
The program can be found at http://ddixon.castoracer.com/rescueid...
I hope you find it helpful

Darren replied on November 13, 2008 16:37 to the question "Keyboard use only = idle time?" in RescueTime:
Hi Kelly,
You are correct in that RescueIdleTime only looks to mouse movements to determine idle time. The program is a quick hack in order to allow RescueTime to tracking the "idle" moment s of our lives but It has not been enhanced with a more appropriate idle detection mechanism. I believe Derringer was working on a better detection technique but has not provided any code for the modifications.

A comment on the praise "RescueIdleTime augments usefulness of RescueTime stats" in RescueTime:
Hi Zeke,
Is there a particular problem/behaviour/messge that you are getting with the program. If you copy the executable to a directory you should be able to just run the application.
This is a simple vb.NET (express edition) application which does not have an installer. This means no item will show up in your installed program. To use the application you simple create a directory (usually under Program Files) and place the "RescueIdleTime.exe" program in that directory. Then run the "RescueIdleTime.exe" program from that directory.
The program requires you have .NET installed.
I hope this helps.

That's great. When you get the source code cleaned up can you make it available? Thanks – Darren, on October 09, 2008 20:24

This would make the top of my list of "things that would make Rescue Time a must have". I have no problem paying for web services that help me stay productive. (Remember the Milk is the best $25 I ever spent), but I find it hard to use Rescue Time effectively when 50-60% of my time is spent off the computer.

I think Tony said it in the first response "We have some cool ideas around this that we'll hopefully get around to soon. Too much to do, too little time!" I know the feeling! ;) – Leslie Chicoine, on September 17, 2008 18:37

http://www.productiveflourishing.com/... has a useful analysis of RescueTime, including mentioning some things the team could do to improve it. http://jawmaster.wordpress.com/2008/0... underlines some other limitations.
I look forward to RescueTime being a tracker as well as a productivity saver.
I'll leave it running, but its insufficient in itself to not need something else to capture the documents in use.
Slife labs have an application. I'll try that next.
