In my Wordpress blog, if the post title contains quotes, the comments link does not work because the quotes are translated into HTML special characters.

Look at the 'Don't Call it Swine Flu' article , currently the second story on the page

This happened to me. Turned out my server firewall was preventing the connection to intensedebate.com. You need to get your server admin to permit this connection.

Problem solved! It was a security issue.

I contacted my server admins and they added intensedebate.com to the firewall settings. Now the connection can be made.

Just waiting to see if everything imports now.

OK, Beau replied (thanks Beau), saying there was either a temporary connectivity problem between my server and ID's server, or that my server was running xtra high security which was preventing the connection.

Still not connecting, so it's not a temporary connectivity prob. And on my WP Dashboard, I get the "WordPress Development Blog" and other feeds loading their headlines in the boxes, which suggests my security isn't a prob, as those feeds use the same mechanism to connect remotely.

Any other ideas?

I succeeded in turning on debugging and accessing the log. I sent it to support, rather than post it here, as it looked like it contained some sensitive info.

Hopefully they'll be able to help.

No, I used a shared server running php 5 and mySQL 4.1.15.

I have this exact same problem using both Safari and Firefox. I can login ok, but I keep getting bounced back to the login page after I click the "import" button.

Disabled wp-supercache, akismet, and Ajax editcomments. No joy.
