I'll respond to both issues in this reply.

Updating: Typically each topic should update at least daily. We have had sporadic updating issues (you can search GetSatisfaction to see posts / responses). When this happens it could be a couple days for things to get caught back up to date.

Things Disappearing: This is typically a 'cache' issue. There are may ways in which we cache data and while we make every effort to keep these things in sync sometimes they get out of sync. Typically the data is still there, it's just not showing up.

HI Jennifer,

Currently you can set the 'zoom level' for embedded timelines, but there isn't a way to do that on the website. Right now, on the site, Dipity picks a zoom level based on the density of events on the timeline, but we're looking at exposing this as a timeline setting in the future.

This feature is available for 'embeds' (grabbing the timeline and dropping it into another page), but isn't part of the topic settings right now, unfortunately. We'll look at what it would take to make this part of the topic settings for a future release.

Hi Alex,

You can click on the 'embed widget' link in the upper right-hand corner of any timeline. This will give you a set of options to choose from. Once you've picked the options you want you can past in the code to your blog and you should be good to go.

Andrew, this is a great idea and one we'll try to implement before the end of the year. Right now the only way to distinguish individual events is by the mini 'favicon' for each source (Flickr / RSS etc.).
