Problems with Sherpa and Bungalow following 37signals account changesImportant: 37signals have today rolled out their changes to the way they handle accounts. We knew this was coming but they didn't give us any preview of the changes so that we could assess the effect they might have on our apps which use the APIs for Basecamp and Highrise.
Unfortunately, it looks like there are some problems with both Sherpa and Bungalow. What we've seen so far is that, if you use OpenID for logging in then the apps will break. There no longer seems to be a place on the accounts page to find the pseudo-id and password for API access. One workaround is to switch your account to username/password. It also appears that the change have broken the file support which we rolled out in Sherpa 1.3.
I'm sure that other problems will arise. If you have trouble then please report it here so we can get a good idea of what we need to fix.
I can only apologise for these problems and assure you that we'll be working as hard as we can to roll out updates to both Sherpa and Bungalow ASAP to fix things. Again, I have to stress that 37signals did not provide us, or any other developers, any preview of the changes so all we could do was to wait for them to roll out and then pick up the pieces.

Hi Bryan,
Can I just check, are you entering username, password and API key all at once? There's a known problem that that doesn't work :-( It'll be fixed in the next release.
If so, either use just your username/password (and Bungalow will fetch the API key) or just the API key and see what happens.
If not, then let me know and we'll try something else to find the problem. I'm sure we can get you up and running quickly.

Hi Thomas,
I'm sorry to hear you're having problems getting Bungalow working. We've not had anyone report it not working in this way before so I'm a bit puzzled. I would really expect an error message to come up if something is wrong. Can we work through a few ideas about what might be wrong?
Firstly, you don't need to give both the username/password and the API key. If you give the username/password then Bungalow will use that to fetch the API key (because the key is so awkward to type). Try clearing the API key field and just using the user/pass. If that doesn't work try clearing the user/pass and just using the API key. Also check that no spaces got copied in to the start or end of the values you pasted.
Also, what are you putting in the account field? You just need to put the first part of your Highrise domain (e.g. if your domain is foo.highrisehq.com then just put "foo"). Putting the whole domain should work but try it both ways to see if there's a problem
Please let me know if any of this fixes the problem and if not we'll try some other things. Of course, it's always possible that the Highrise is not working properly but I've not seen any notices about that from 37signals.
Regards,
Doug

Hi Tina,
The description of Bungalow on the App store is pretty clear, I think, in saying that Bungalow only handles tasks. The Bungalow page on the WiredThing website is also pretty clear. The only place I can see that talks about contacts, deals and the rest is on our blog post announcing Bungalow, but it says that those are Highrise features and that Bungalow only supports tasks at the moment. I can see that it might be unclear, though, and we'll update the post to make it more obvious.
I'm sorry if you feel the description was misleading. We hope to extend Bungalow out to the other Highrise features at some point in the future but I can't say definitely when that might be.
In the meantime, if you really feel that you've been misled then you can email Apple and ask for a refund. Unfortunately, the way the AppStore works doesn't make it easy to issue a refund any other way.
Regards,
Doug

Hi,
I saw your comment on the App store about this. It's puzzling because I make this kind of change to tasks all the time and have not seen this problem.
When you change the task does the background change to dark gray? Shortly after, the spinner should appear at the right-hand end of the task to indicate that it is syncing and once the spinner stops the task background should change back to the same light colour as the other tasks. Is this happening?
Perhaps there is something in your configuration which is different from ours which is causing the problem. My first question is are you using SSL on your Highrise account? It should work with or without but most of our testing has been done with SSL turned on.

Thanks Trevor. I haven't been able to reproduce this on an archived project on our basecamp account, but I certainly accept that we should not be offering archived projects in the list.
I'll raise this as an issue and get it fixed in the next version. Thanks very much for your feedback, we really appreciate it.

We've tried to make it as easy as possible to get started with Bungalow, so we've set the account screen up to be able to handle either your full Highrise domain or just the account name bit.
In other words, if the URL for your account is http://froodle.highrisehq.com then you can put either froodle.highrisehq.com or just froodle in the Account field.
