Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on December 22, 2009 19:10 to the question "Founders and Editability of Spots" in Gowalla:
Sam: do provide your description and the spot #. If none is currently present, I see no reason for the STEs to not add it (especially if it is in good taste and informative).
With regard to Founders: It is handled in much the same was as, say, a Producer to a film. They donated items to the spot for trade and they get their names in the "credits" to the fostering growth of that spot. Often times, it also means who was some of the first people to arrive at the location after its creation. Spots that are going to be very popular (such as Times Square) are going to have 100s of visitors and to get your name emblazoned, permanently, on the spot's page is seen as a lofty goal (if not being the one who managed to get there first to create it).
A comment on the problem "Can't edit created spot" in Gowalla:
More likely, they would, as SD puts it, "Go ca-ra-zay!"
It's really all about making sure the spots are monitored more efficiently and effectively. – Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd, on December 22, 2009 19:02

Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on December 22, 2009 17:01 to the question "More than 10 founders still?" in Gowalla:
I'm becoming more and more convinced people are creating duplicate spots of import specifically to be a Founder when the spot gets inevitably merged.
It is simply absurd to think the app isn't showing the most visited spot to the user as they are standing RIGHT ON TOP OF it before creating the dupe.
I am starting to consider NOT merging these very obvious Founder Grabs, but I can't let them continue as they are... I would very much like some suggestions.

Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on December 09, 2009 07:56 to the problem "Kept Wrong Spot" in Gowalla:
Looks like another STE kept the wrong spot: The Waterwall.
I created that spot on May 24, moments before creating Williams Tower right next to it. Of course, it kept my description, but that is of little comfort.
There really needs to be some additional "Confirmation" step or something like Apple's "You are about to save over an older item" type dialog.
Being that I live in the heart of Gowalladom, being the Commissioner to new spots is much harder for me now and as much as it tears me up that I merged Susan Herself's spot, I now know even more how heart-wrenching it is to lose a created spot.
Thanks

Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on December 09, 2009 01:32 to the idea "Refuse Items" in Gowalla:
Just wanted to give this thread/idea a lil bump.
Currently, I am playing wherein I check in to my favorite places and those I really want the stamp for. The purpose of which is two fold:
1) This is a personal preference – I want to keep and maintain a "clean" passport.
2) I don't want to have a loaded pack for when New Item Tuesdays roll around.
Today, I would have really liked to decline items as I scoured my neck of the woods for the new Stationary item. Rather, I had to check into and found a bunch of places that I normally would have waited on (though there were a couple that I gladly Founded). Ultimately, my personal issue with double vaulting has me going this route (oddly enough, I'd rather be a Founder than have a dupe item in my vault – of which, only one instance had that occur).
Anyway, would just really like to see this in a future release. Rest assured that this game has me quite wrapped. Thank you!
Happy Gowall'ing!

I believe the Street Team Elite members are, more or less, acting as ambassadors for Gowalla in foreign lands.
I think Gowalla comes across more international than some might be considering. While there are definitely more Featured spots within the United States, there are quite a few important, worldly locations getting much Gowalla love. Be it from the developers or from local Gowallites.

Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on December 04, 2009 22:11 to the problem "spot in wrong spot" in Gowalla:
That's likely because it is outside the base range for moving spots. This can happen from time to time and, unfortunately, still requires the Gowalla Team to actually move it in the system. It's mostly to ensure people aren't creating a spot and then moving it to a location they actually haven't been.
