Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on October 28, 2009 22:04 to the question "Combine "Vault" and "Missing" tabs?" in Gowalla:
Put my hat in the pile of "likes current setup."
Perhaps it's due to my only needing 6 more items to "complete" my vault, but with anything over 20 items, you start to add pages to your vault. Unless the missing items are all placed at the very top (first page) of your vault, digging through to see if you have an item or not would become quite the task. Imagine another year of this game with twice (or three times or four times) the number of items.
Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on October 28, 2009 22:00 to the idea "Have the ability to hide a spot from the list" in Gowalla:
I suggested a similar feature in Joe Pinelli's "Get Rid of the Chains" thread. Basically, the ability to "turn-off" a spot from being visible to you whether because you never intend on checking in and/or you really don't want that spot to show up on your lists.
It is currently under consideration.

A comment on the question "Featured Spot Requests" in Gowalla:
I am of the opinion that lighthouses are the most romantic man-made structures. When visiting the island of Barbados, we managed to see all four of its lighthouses and they were spectacular. I only wish this game existed (or the iPhone 3G, for that matter) when traveling there.
Personally, I intend on Gowall'ing every lighthouse I come across, be it a check-in or created anew. – Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd, on October 28, 2009 03:35
Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd marked one of Josh Williams' replies in Gowalla as useful. Josh Williams replied to the question "iPod Touch capabilty? SMS function?". Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on October 27, 2009 22:31 to the question "Why do some spots allow more than 10 founders?" in Gowalla:
Technically, Alamofire's response does answer the question of "Why do some spots allow more than 10 founders."
However, it means there wasn't a proactive measure taken to prevent the spots from having this specific situation arise. Not that they would have necessarily predicted this, but being aware that Founders from a merged spot would be included in the original, some form of timestamp check should have been implemented.
Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on October 27, 2009 21:26 to the question "Why do some spots allow more than 10 founders?" in Gowalla:
Ho! Ho! This is very interesting. Now I'm wondering if this is the reason so many dupes are cropping up on Featured (or exceedingly popular) spots...
MrCalifornia has the best idea to resolve this issue and had GetSatisfaction a way to promote/recognize internal comments, I'd give him the Star.
Gina, you are quite the Sherlock with your amazing powers of observation.
Cheers!

Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on October 26, 2009 20:02 to the idea "Trip Requests" in Gowalla:
Some time ago, I was inspired to come up with a trip centered around some of the most nefarious buildings currently known. The ones we all recognize and know some small history about. The homes to countless villains and ne'er-do-wells. The notorious structures of these United States. I propose a trip that travels from sea to shining sea and through 5 states cataloging the country's major prisons.
When I proposed this idea, only one had been Gowalla'd (Folsom State Prison). Since then, at least one more was created (why it took so long is a bit of a mystery, hehe). Team Gowalla could always manually create these spots, however, here's where some of you go-getter Gowallites can join in: if you are near the coordinates listed, do make these spots. I have provided some words one could use to describe the spots, but no one is under any obligation to use them, of course. Once you create the spot, reply in a comment to this post with the spot's URL. This is truly a commissioned trip, in my opinion.
The Spots (9 total):
Rikers Island (40o47'28"N 73o52'58"W)
Named after the 413 acre island between Queens, New York and the East River, this facility controls a yearly inmate population of up to 13,000. Prior to the unmarked 4,200-foot three-lane Francis Buono Bridge, the only access to the island was via ferry.
Attica (42o50'59"N 78o16'18"W)
Housing some of the most notorious criminals such as "The Son of Sam," Attica was the site of one of the most deadly prison riots in 1971; leaving 29 inmates and 10 correctional officers—held hostage—dead.
Sing Sing (41.150786 -73.869267)
If you were to be sent "up the river," this is the maximum security prison you were likely headed to serve your sentence. You'll not find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
San Quentin State Prison (37.9375oN 122.4891oW)
The oldest prison in the state of California, this prison has the only, and largest, death row for male inmates. Represented in the form of film, video, television, literature and even hosting concerts, these walls are notorious for more than just whom they hold.
Folsom State Prison (Spot created by Jolene Lavine on Mar 19, 2009)
Alcatraz Island (Spot created by Matthew McMaster on Oct 17, 2009)
The Rock. Home to Al Capone, "Machine Gun" Kelly and The Birdman (Franklin Stroud). Claimed to be the escape-proof penitentiary. It only served as a federal prison for 29 years. It's now part of the National Park Service and home to protected fauna and flora.
Cook County Jail (3015 N California Ave, Chicago, IL)
Covering 96 acres, this is the largest single-site county jail in the United States, housing approximately 9,800 men and women. The deeds of men to come here are second only in horror to our worst nightmares.
Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary (39o19'51"N 94o56'09"W)
Since an act of congress in 1895 opened the doors of this medium-security prison, the "Big House" has been home to countless inmates such as Michael Vick.
Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville (30.722027oN 95.545596oW)
The "Walls Unit" is the oldest state prison in Texas, opening in 1849. Though it only holds a population close to 2,000 individuals, it is one of Texas' most notorious death penalty prisons, with "Old Sparky" executing around 362 inmates between 1924 to 1964.
I look forward to completing this trip whether live in the Trip list or not.
Happy Gowall'ing!

Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd replied on October 23, 2009 16:37 to the idea "Add all trips" in Gowalla:
I think the problem with that is you'd potentially have users entering places that they'd like to claim the stamp of that they haven't actually been to, or for events they weren't able to attend (such as the ACL trip/spots).
While I'd certainly like to record the fact that I have been to both Disneyland and DisneyWorld, Vegas, Cancun, Barbados, Honduras, Roatan, Chichen Itza, several of the Lesser Antilles Islands, Denver, etc. I will have to simply wait until I either return to those places to get the stamps or not get them at all, just as you would experience in your real passport.

Hence the reason the topic is directed at those who commission a duplicate. Statements such as "when you become aware you've made a duplicate" support the subject. – Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd, on October 23, 2009 14:43
A comment on the question "Gowalla must upstage 4Sq" in Gowalla:
I don't understand why they have it locked down in such a manner, either. How much of a social networking application is it if it only works in cities designated by the developers? – Dr. Barnabus Peddingferd, on October 22, 2009 20:13
