A comment on the idea "Box lunches should be recycled and composted" in Netroots Nation:
Actually it just shows you how starved I was for friuts or veggies that week. Usually, the box lunch (if we had a chance to grab one) was the first food of te day and we then wouldn't get a chance to go out for dinner till after the last event and prepping for the next day. Austin was great but 99% of the places stopped serving food at 10pm so it was either deeeep fried bar food at wait til 2 am when the taco carts came out. – Eric (ETinKC), on July 28, 2008 04:41

When you say day before, are you talking about Wedneday or Tuesday? This year we had volunteers (mostly local I think) on Tuesday to help stuff bags - and we openned up Registration on Wednesday so folks could register the night before. I love the idea of having a more formal or at least an event on Wednesday. May even encourage more people to come in the night before and get registered. Maybe some sort of mixer/movie/food/presentaion right where the reg desk is so people can get registered at their leisure and the enjoy each others company.

But OC, the bag was cool and reusable at least :)
This is a comment we heard a lot, One thought was to have more stuff out on the tables during keynotes so people only took what they wanted, but then their were complaints about all the stuff on tables as well, some of which we have no idea where it comes from.
Bottom line the sponsors pay loots of money for us to get there message into the hands of all of our attendees such that we can actually offer the conference at as low a rate as we do. We really do love our sponsors and want people to patronize them, but I think that it means teaching them the difference between good swag and insting recycled material. However, we got comments from folks who like the reading material. (Personally - I left my book in the hotel room - aarrgg - so I enjoyed my SEED magazine and Mother Jones on the way home.)

While there are some discussions that may work better in lecture format, those should be few. We also need to do a better job of labeling the panels as such. In addition to the format of the panels we will be looking into how the layout of the rooms can lend itself to be more conducive to casual discussion and debate.
