Ya there might have just been a server issue or network congestion. They are working on improving the experience. – James Hartig, on December 16, 2009 21:55

I would like you to try one last time. Make a brand new folder, put just the mp3s you want to upload in there (and NOTHING else) and add the folder. If it still doesn't work, email me a zip or the mp3s. Email: fastest963 at gmail.com – James Hartig, on December 14, 2009 20:40

I do not know Jay, just it seems that any other non-mp3 songs in the same folder screw it up. – James Hartig, on December 14, 2009 20:39

A comment on the idea "Buffering the next song before the previous has ended" in Grooveshark:
The way that grooveshark works is that it assigns a server based on the song you requested (because not all servers have all songs).
If you are going to rewrite the URLs, you get a 400 error from akamai or otherwise from the PHP script that Grooveshark is running because when the stream was activated the akamai server was not specified.
If you could, provide the range of IPs that resolve to Iceland. This would be easy (depending of if they have it implemented) for Grooveshark to redirect your requests. In the meantime, just deal with the lag. Should Grooveshark move all of its songs to akamai, then well, this thread would be pointless ;) – James Hartig, on December 11, 2009 22:03

Grooveshark does not operate a server in Iceland. Please see the following image:
http://screencast.com/t/OTA4ZTA1O
They are streaming the songs using a CDN and therefore it seems that akamai (http://www.akamai.com/) has a server in Iceland, but as far as grooveshark operating a server in Iceland is false. I can prove this because (as shown in the picture) all the locations have a CNAME result that points to edgesuite.net, which is owned and operated by Akamai.
I will play around with it and see what is going on with those 40%. – James Hartig, on December 11, 2009 21:52

Akamai is a CDN for media streaming and for Grooveshark (which I was unaware they streamed music through their CDN) that could get very expensive. I'm unaware of this though.
From experience, different songs are hosted on different servers, so technically if you limited yourself to only akamai, while fast, your song choices would be vastly limited. There are ways to force yourself to only Akamai using DNS hacks, but I would wait until either I or boxmonkey give confirmation that they have all songs uploaded and avaliable on akamai.

You said Chromium browser, so you are using the nightly builds then? Have you installed the latest version of the Chrome beta for linux, just released the other day? When the page turns grey, does it say something like Aww snap, something went wrong" or something indicating that Chromium failed or does the page still function?
