I like/love this idea too but no major to do app seems to care. Here is a list of links from RTM that have numerous unheeded requests for this feature like this.

I would be excited myself if I were not so depressed. Your 2 best bests are Toodledo and Hiveminder that have some kind of tracking on the desktop. I have made several requests myself all over the place and it seems to be an anathema or not a high priority.
You posted this 10 months ago and I am the only response. Maybe saying how it's never going to happen might have it happen.-

It would trigger an email to be sent. Then a whole world would open up in terms of who you could cc on a task for delegating purposes, updating the task to a group using group tag, adding recurring tags, or forwarding this to a reminder service that would resend the email as an email or sms message.
Also there are tag specific emails that can be created in Hiveminder and added to the addressbook of any iphone that also leverages email. Maybe this could lead to have a place to store them and initiate them in iminder (just brainstorming now)
This is an alternative way to add a lot of functionality without much development on the native side. The Chief purpose is to access the email functionality within Hiveminder and other third party email services.
Fox Mulder shared an idea in World Airmail Links on June 06, 2009 03:53:
Email interaction option in iminder or email version.Hiveminder is one of those unique apps that is able to leverage email communication. Would you consider an email version of the iPhone app or an email option within the original iminder iphone app?
Tasks can be completed by checking the checkbox this is relatively ideal and simple and it works. The email option although seemingly not as intuitive allows task grouping, recurring, completion with additional email completion notes/attachments, and integrating with third party programs that use email communication (like reminders programs) via cc.
I particularly would like to leverage the latter option. Perhaps instead of a stand alone app you could provide an option in settings to replace the checkbox with an email icon for those who would like to complete and alter tasks.
Going further even offering snippets for common hiveminder syntax like [complete=1], group options [group: mygroup], Recurring [every: week] later on down the road in case that is difficult.

Just a reminder: In a nutshell, there is a digital card at the following address http://tinyurl.com/sandyscard that multiple people can sign and leave words of appreciation. This digital group e card will be delivered on the 19th (Today!) at 5pm EST to Rael to pass on to Sandy. :-)
It is purely optional to contribute to a gift card. A portion of those funds will go towards creating a physical poster of the card with signatures as a souvenir. Currently $10 has been given. Anyone can contribute as little or as much as they want or nothing at all. Be sure to at least sign the card if you rather not spend any money. There are currently at least 34 signatures.

Sandy ends work on December 19 - right before Christmas. Take the opportunity to offer words of appreciation by signing her going away card at the following address http://tinyurl.com/sandyscard. It is purely optional to contribute to the gift card. However, this what community is all about. In these harsh economic times even some words of gratitude can be helpful to her as she moves on in her new life. Hopefully she'll have accepted a position somewhere she can start after the holidays.
As for you Rael - Fork you. YOU CAN KiSS MY RSS. You're a twit and you"re going to the right place. It's full of them.

Sign Sandy's Thank You Card before December 8th!
Sandy is scheduled to end her employment on December 8th. I thought I would pass this digital card around the office for each of us to sign so she'll realize how much of a difference she has made in our lives. It is real simple to sign. Just follow the link below or click on the image above.
It is purely optional to contribute financially to a gift card. The initial proceeds will go to creating a giant sized printed poster of the card and our signatures. I will make sure Rael passes this on to Sandy. It will be a perfect souvenir of our thanks.
If you have any questions feel free to comment here and please don't tell Sandy.
You can share this link to the card with our friends as well. http://tinyurl.com/sandyscard.
