Copy HTML Block in Viewfinder 1.0.4Viewfinder 1.0.4 adds a "Copy HTML Block" command for user looking for images to post on other websites.
I wanted to mention a couple of things around this feature:
Firstly, copying HTML blocks is only available for photos which are downloadable. This is in line with Viewfinder's policy of allowing the same access to photos as the web site (you can't get the static URL of a non-downloadable image from a Flickr.com web pate).
If you try to copy a selection comprised of entirely non-downloadable images, the menu item will be greyed out. If the selection is comprised of some downloadable and some non-downloadable images, you'll see an alert explaining that only the links for the downloadable images will be copied.
Secondly, the HTML block can't be customised in this release. According to the Flickr terms of service, all external uses of Flickr-hosted images must contain a link back to the Flickr page. I hope to increase the flexibility of this feature in future.
Finally, the commands will all copy the link to the "medium" size, which is likely suitable for most online uses. There is a preferences hack that you can use to change the size of the link that's copied. Note that using this hack _should_ work, but isn't fully supported or tested.
In Terminal, type:
defaults write com.connectedflow.Viewfinder VFCopyHTMLBlockSizePreferenceKey -integer [number]
..and replace [number] with:
0 for the square size
1 for the thumbnail size
2 for the small size
3 for the medium size (this is the default
4 for the large size
You may get odd or unpredictable results if you try any other number.
To undo the 'hack', type:
defaults delete com.connectedflow.Viewfinder VFCopyHTMLBlockSizePreferenceKey
I hope that's useful. This isn't the final iteration of this feature, but I wanted to get something into people's hands before too much time passed. I look forward to your feedback.

A comment on the problem "Metadata not updated" in Connected Flow:
I'm sorry, but my policy is not to speculate on when features might become available, except to say that it will probably be FlickrExport 4.0 at the earliest.
I have published a road map for FlickrExport, which calls for a FlickrExport 3.5 release before 4.0: http://www.connectedflow.com/blog/?p=106
In short, it's unlikely to be in 2010. – Fraser Speirs, on November 23, 2009 08:55
A comment on the problem "Metadata not updated" in Connected Flow:
FlickrExport 3 doesn't have this feature because other features were deemed more important for the 3.0 release. It's on the list of things to do but it will be part of a major feature update to FlickrExport, and that won't be in time for you to upload your Nepal pictures.
I'm always happy to give refunds when FlickrExport doesn't meet a customer's needs. Just let me know what you want to do. – Fraser Speirs, on November 23, 2009 08:30
Fraser Speirs replied on November 23, 2009 00:09 to the problem "Metadata not updated" in Connected Flow:
This is by design, in the current version of the software. A number of people have requested the ability to update metadata either alongside a re-upload or instead of. As it stands, though, you can't update the metadata a second time through FlickrExport.
If this really makes FlickrExport unusable for you, and you would like a refund, that won't be a problem. Just forward your receipt to info-at-connectedflow.com and I'll take care of that for you.
Best,
Fraser

Left/Right split isn't sized correctly with OmniFocusI'm using two windows in OmniFocus and I find that SizeUp isn't correctly laying them out when I send them right/left.

Tiling them above and below works correctly.

Anything I can do, or information I can send to the people at Omni?
Thanks for a great utility,
Fraser

Fraser Speirs replied on November 11, 2009 22:13 to the problem "Cached vs. re-downloaded images" in Connected Flow:
Viewfinder does this by design, but it's more of a social feature than a technical bug. Let me explain:
Certain members of the Flickr community are extremely sensitive about the idea of anyone 'downloading' their images and so mark them as non-downloadable. To show the images at all, though, Viewfinder has to download at least a small version.
I decided, for 1.0, that I would make Viewfinder aggressively expire its cache to avoid any perception of "enabling download and theft of images".
You and I might not agree that downloading-for-display constitutes theft, but I really didn't want Viewfinder's 1.0 release to be marred by a big Flickr ruckus about copyright violation.
I hope to be able to relax this in the future.
Fraser Speirs replied on November 11, 2009 08:02 to the question "Some Metadata Not Being Included" in Connected Flow:
The only thing that FlickrExport picks up as tags is the Aperture keyword hierarchy. The Flickr site itself tries to read other tags from the file, such as the location metadata.
I _suspect_ that something might have changed or broken at Flickr when you were testing. If you could link me to a public photo on Flickr, that might shed some more light on the situation.

Fraser Speirs replied on November 08, 2009 22:15 to the question "Generate attribution data for used images" in Connected Flow:
Again, great feedback. I really want to avoid designing hooks into the entire world - it's a ton of effort and I would be unlikely to get them right unless I used the hooks personally.
I think what I'll aim for is one or two sensible common formats that people can build their own workflows around. The two that come to mind are plain text and XMP, but maybe RTF would be useful as a "ready-to-use" file.
Plenty to think about here.

Fraser Speirs replied on November 08, 2009 09:28 to the question "Generate attribution data for used images" in Connected Flow:
Brilliant, brilliant feedback. Thank you. One thing that was suggested during the beta phase was that Viewfinder should write a 'sidecar' file of metadata along with a download. Does that sound like it would be useful?
If I did that, would it be important that the sidecar be XMP format, or would a plain text file work?
