Ghislain 'Aus' Lacroix replied on October 16, 2009 04:57 to the problem "Lost metadata without warning in FLAC files" in Songbird:
Hi there, what version of Songbird are you using? This sounds like an older bug to me. Could you copy over a test file and attempt the same operation with a nightly build from http://developer.songbirdnest.com/bui... ?
To be extra safe, try launching Songbird from the start menu using the 'Profile Manager' shortcut. Create a new profile to perform this test. This will ensure that you main profile you have right now doesn't become incompatible with the current version of Songbird you are using.
What may be happening underneath the hood is that despite the fact that we could not update the album art, we are still rewriting the rest of the metadata. This is just how it works at this point.
Ghislain 'Aus' Lacroix replied on May 24, 2009 18:54 to the idea "EQ and applet" in Songbird:
On Windows, Songbird uses the ACM MP3 Decoder and DirectSound to output audio. If you compare the sound quality of WMP and Songbird they should be basically the same.
On Mac, Songbird uses QuickTime to decode MP3 data and Core Audio to output it. If you were to compare Songbird to iTunes on the Mac, they should sound almost exactly the same (without replaygain, or any other sound shaping turned on).
On Linux, Songbird uses the Fluendo MP3 decoder and typically uses Pulse Audio to output. In this case, I'm not sure who else uses that decoder so it's harder to compare sound quality.
A comment on the idea "EQ and applet" in Songbird:
There are known issues with the current Equalizer that cause distortion, these will be fixed before it's released.
The first iteration of the Equalizer will not have any presets, there was simply not enough time to put those in there. – Ghislain 'Aus' Lacroix, on May 24, 2009 18:51

I don't find that particularly amusing my friend. We have a lot of work to do and it's actually quite frustrating to have people poke us on IRC about one subject all the time. – Ghislain 'Aus' Lacroix, on March 25, 2009 18:38

Just keep on submitting those crash reports and it will help us fix the crashes :) – Ghislain 'Aus' Lacroix, on March 16, 2009 17:52

Yes, that's something we could do. – Ghislain 'Aus' Lacroix, on March 16, 2009 17:49

Trevor, I understand you're angry but bugs in software do happen. Sometimes they have very sucky side-effects. :(
We're all investigating this problem to try and figure out what the heck is going on. We didn't run into this problem during our testing in house so we are quite confused about all these reports :(

Ghislain 'Aus' Lacroix replied on March 14, 2009 19:37 to the problem "Problem With Artist Pane Display: Not Showing Up / Incorrect order" in Songbird:
We're sadly probably not going to give you the option of just turning that off (since it would also turn off ignoring 'the' 'a' and 'les'). However, we could possibly provide a way to edit which articles will get ignored.
The !!! issue is because that string is entirely composed of symbols which we also ignore. It's a separate issue that's unrelated to the articles. We're already working on that problem and should have a fix for the next release.

Sadly, Hendrix won't be launching today. If you look at this list of issues over here you will see that we still have a top crasher bug we're trying to resolve before launching. Sorry for the delay everyone. :(
Ghislain 'Aus' Lacroix replied on November 14, 2008 19:23 to the idea "Can't songbird use libmtp, or something similar, to provide cross platform mtp support?" in Songbird:
While libmtp will be providing support for MTP devices on Linux and Mac. We'll still use the Windows Portable Device SDK on Windows because it provides a lot of features that people on Windows expect to have available with their portable device.
For example, the Windows Portable Device SDK includes support for USB Mass Storage. It also offers support for various ways to connect to the device: USB, Firewire, Bluetooth and IR.
On the whole I think the compatible devices list should match up fairly well but the ways you can connect your device and have Songbird see it will vary. The Windows Portable SDK does work with all MTP compliant devices already.
I hope this answers your question :)
