A comment on the question "Any way to update business addresses?" in Brightkite:
Usually I try to play around with different options like street name, intersections, zip code, etc. Sometimes I have to compromise and just use the zip with a custom label, which usually shows up as city, state [label]. It's not the most accurate option, but at least I'm able to display the label and city correctly. If you like, you can DM me the location and I can mess around with it. :) – Lesley, on September 30, 2008 21:21

Okay, am trying it with my other locations now. What about the ugly "Rhode Isl" instead of "RI"? Will this be corrected as well? – HelloKit, on August 29, 2008 20:11

We recently changed some things involving the location search and we are still working out the kinks. Adding a label at city level should work, and it does for every other city I was able to find in your visited places. But it seems that one location is a bit buggy as a result of these recent changes. We should have these issues resolved in the next few days. :) – Lesley, on August 29, 2008 19:10

I tried this but it doesn't work at all. For the address I was trying it with, if I use the city and state, BK is tacking on a street that is completely unrelated to where I'm at. If I just use the zip code, it comes up as USA with no city or state. I really prefer not to do it at street level, because in my area the streets can be pretty short and this would pinpoint my location just as well as the full address would. – HelloKit, on August 29, 2008 18:40

HelloKit, thank you for the idea, we will take it into consideration. In the meantime, one thing you could try is checking in publicly and only giving a street name or even a zip code when you apply your label. For instance, street level:

Zip code:
http://brightkite.com/places/dcae1133...
If you do it this way your custom label will always show and you can still maintain your privacy for sensitive locations.

Show place name in private mode.I'd like to have place names visible when in private mode. I have a "where am i?" badge on my web site which pulls my latest check-in (via Twitter). I want to be able to show that I am at home, at my in-laws' or at my best friend's house without giving away the address. (I use custom place names in brackets to label these places, but those labels don't show when I'm in private mode.)
I understand that not everyone will want this, so it should be a user preference. It could be even more useful as a per-place setting (i.e. Always show place name in private mode).

Remy, your script is fantastic! And I love how you've been constantly updating the script since you first wrote it over a year ago. Thanks! – mdy, on June 16, 2008 17:21

It seems that our installation instructions are not clear enough and you need to set permissions of json-proxy.cgi to 755 (read and execute for whole world).
Thanks to Toni for pointing it out here: http://mt4.juneeonline.com/babble-on/...

Movable Type plugin never retrieves suggestionsI recently installed the Zemanta plugin for Movable Type, and I can't get it to work. It just sits there "retrieving suggestions" but never actually retrieves anything.

I haven't implemented this, but someone may have already and it's certainly possible: Yahoo! Pipes could be used to strip out @-replies and leave exactly X (say, 4) standard updates, assuming at least X of the last Y (say, 10) are standard updates.
A server-side script implementing caching would guarantee exactly X standard updates.

I don't know of a way to do it using the flash badge, but there's a way to do this using the html/javascript badge mentioned in this related thread (in case you're interested).

I completely forgot about the javascript badge in this other thread. A lot better than the Yahoo Pipes alternative.-

Hi there. There's currently no parameter available, unfortunately.
But you may want to explore the alternative described in this related thread.-
