We are aware of some problems users have with keyboards on ChessCube, which will be fixed in a future version. To fix your problem at the moment, you will need to change the "Foreign Keyboard Support" setting. To do this, click on Help on the top menu bar, and then click on "Foreign Keyboard Support" to change it. Let us know if this solution works for you.

Sorry for the late response, the messages with more information are automatically sent when you recieve an invite and you are not currently seeking (this can happen if you have just finished seeking). If you are playing a game, it says "Invite declined: I'm already playing a game" and if you aren't it says "Invite declined: not right now, thanks". There are also other messages wich are sent if you have set yourself to be "Away" or "Busy".
