Jared replied on July 27, 2009 18:07 to the question "MagMount ball head features" in Trek-Tech:
The difference between the MagMount STAR and MagMount PRO is that the MagMount PRO is a larger ball head. Both have slots for 90 degree portrait shots. The friction control on both can be partly or fully released. Turning the thumb screws on either a quarter or half turn will provide you with some friction without fully loosening the ball. Unscrew if further to fully release the ball. The thumb screw on the MagMount PRO is larger and can be indexed by pulling it out slightly. This allows you to move the thumb screw without loosening or tightening the ball head. This feature also allows for its use on larger platforms where you can't turn the thumb screw fully around. Both ball heads are constructed of aluminum and then anodized black to protect against the elements.

Adrian,
You are correct. The three different systems have adapters designed to be used for each system. The Light Force adapter will work on all of the systems where as the MagAdapter STAR should be only used on the MagMount PRO and MagMount STAR. The MagAdapter AR/i should be used on the MagMount AR/i. The Heavy Force Adapter should be used on the MagConnect and the origional MagMount systems.
