Never mind - I found the answer. The author changes their image to have the green overlay to show support for the Iran election protest.

The pictures (image) of some of the tweet authors that I am following have a translucent green color over them. (see example) This just started about a week ago, and certainly doesn't happen for all authors, but does on 3 or 4 of them.
Is there a way to turn this off?
