I can see why Post Office is under government. (Even though the USPS is a private agency I think folks still think of it with City Hall/CourtHouse/FireStationEtc) Mebbe it could be cross posted? I only suggest this as I was able to intuitively (incorrectly?) find it where it is now. – joescales, on December 10, 2009 16:36

A comment on the question "General problems creating spots" in Gowalla:
Well, I think it would be good if Gowalla would publish an "etiquette" page. As it currently stands there really isn't a set of guidelines for creating spots. As an example, if I were on Burlingame Ave in San Mateo I "could" see that every business on the street "could" have a spot. Now, who am I to say if they "should" have a spot? I know I go about making spots from a geocaching background. I started to make spots that were unique or creative or special. However, once I saw the proliferation of Starbucks sites I figured, well I'm at a Starbucks that doesn't have a spot, might as well make one. Everybody comes to the game from a different perspective. I imagine that some players might think they are "helping" by making a spot for every business on a street. Myself?... I don't play that way and in the end, without some guidelines, (or a limit of how many placed you can make in a certain time period/area) I imagine people will naturally saturate popular area.
.... and maybe some folks might not want to be known for creating spots one after another in an area... and maybe they do. C'est la vie.

joescales asked a question in Gowalla on November 20, 2009 23:19:
Creativity vs. Bland? So, I have a question for the Gowallites. When we first started creating places I opted to give "creative" names to spots rather than go for the "simply obvious." Case in point, I decided to label the Fry's Electronics store "Geek Stuff" rather than "Fry's Electronics." I was thinking it added a little flair to the game rather than a "yellow pages" feel to checking in. The problem is that people keep adding "Fry's Electronics" as a new spot. I can see both points of view but I was curious what YOU thought.
Thoughts?

Jonathan,
I was curious ... I haven't seen this icon show up for me.
This was your response from a couple of days ago.
Oh, we're sad, too! Everyone was supposed to get it, yes, and while we had a bit of a bug, we thought we had squashed it. We'll get you hooked up, Joe (and anyone else out there who can prove a check-in at Crush It but didn't get a book

MiSSing Crush It! item"Crush It" book item. We had a great time at the Gary Vee event and picked up the Crush It! spot while also running into other Gollallites (Geoff Brown, Rob Bracket, Dave Bedingfield) but I noticed I didn't receive my Crush It Book item. Was this a bug .. was everybody that checked in supposed to get the item?

Where would you stick this? How would you categorize a "farm?" Hey, it's pumpkin patch season. I'm looking for advice from my fellow gowallites. What category would you pick for a farm?

Awww... Can't I have the nifty icon on my spot?My eagle-eyed Gowalla Buddy (acordova) noticed that Team Gowalla made a spot last week at the same location I made a spot six months ago in March. (Sure, I was trying to make the name a bit creative ..)
Awwww... can't I have a pretty icon too? Shouldn't we "merged" this two spots?
Lol... who is this "Team Gowalla" and shouldn't we give them a list of legacy sites?
Best,
joescales...

I was a bit over zealous and didn't see the spot that was already there.
(Do "we" want duplicate requests in NEW postings or should we have a dedicated thread for them?)
